I don't know if I would call it a mismatched combo. He has a very typical setup. The cams may not be optimized for the airflow that the heads are capable of.

Can't wait to see some FI #s with these heads!

It will be even more sick if you port these babies.

While it is a typical setup, he is still running the stock intake, a cam that probably won't work all that well with the new heads and he could use larger primaries on the longtubes. Not to mention all the other little details about the car we don't know that could probably net more power.

Swap out the intake, cams and longtubes and you may be looking at 20+ more horsepower. Now who would have though 4 years ago anyone would see a stock shortblock 4.6L put down 370+ rwhp NA?

Either way 350+ rwhp is pretty stout for the little 4.6. You gotta hand it to Trick Flow for coming out with a great set of heads.

I myself have dropped all plans of going 4v at this point and am going to do a big bore with the TFS heads. Haven't decided if I want to throw a kenne bell on top or stay NA...seeing as I am using the convertible as my daily driver I may just stay NA and go with the TFS track heat intake and a custom set of cams.

Impressive, I must say. Any numbers from blown cars?

Bad ass numbers. I need these things. Heres the piece quoted from the other website. Ken from Modular Depot posted them:

Just got done with the first dyno on our first Trickflow car.

The car is owned by Chris Durbin and was already a built 2v. It was ported PI heads, stock intake, Comp 278 cams, C&L plenum and a Mac cold air intake. Numbers were 305 rwhp / 316 rwtq on 93 octane.

We decided to only swap the heads to get a good comparison. Plus he wasn't after alot of power as he run the car in NASA American Iron and it has a power to weight ratio spec. We swapped on the 38cc heads.

I'm happy to say the gains were what we were hoping for if not better! Obviously we picked up about a point of compression with the swap but we are still running pump gas.
New numbers are 353rwhp / 357rwtq

That peak gains of 48 rwhp and 33 rwtq! (over ported PI Heads)

I'm sure with a better intake and cams ground specifically for this setup there is plenty more on the table. Then add some porting some some tricky stuff to the shortblock and big power NA 2v's are going to become a reality.

I already purchased them a month ago.....44cc chambered heads and ordered them from Ron at Fox Lake.....he will port the intake and exhaust runners for 500.00 and the heads will flow 260cfm........gonna be sweet! Should have have heads by next week when I get home from Iraq........can't wait to see the gains and how they perform..........

Yeah I remeber the days when people said a 400 rwhp 2v would never be possible. I think with these heads, a 5.3L stroker, and a trickflow intake, and the right cams it is definitely possible. And yeah this is much easier than doing a 4v swap. I might order some 44cc heads for my car.

Not to be the Devil's Advocate, but why are the original numbers so low for the combo? That original combo should be in the 320 - 330 RWHP range. The only thing I can come with is that the original setup, the cams were timed retarded a few degrees to ensure PTV contact did not happen.

That said, the gain is impressive. Not impressive enough for me to at this point in time to carry on with a purchase of them though. I was on Modular Depot's list to buy them, but have given that spot up. I am still waiting to see some track results before I reconsider.

To be honest, I think a full N/A Street buld 4.6L( 284 CI ) with the 38CC heads and Flat Top pistons can achieve damn close to if not 400 RWHP on pump fuel. You won't need the bigger displaced engines to get there. A N/A 5.0L Big-Bore race build with these heads will exceed 500 RWHP.

I agree.....but it wasn't noted if the pistons were notched on that block or not...it was a built short block......not enough data to say how much the gain actually could be......but in reality...if you have to retard the cams to fit the PI heads and didn't have to with the TFS heads then you did actually gain the full potential of those cams......50rwhp gain at 6000 rpms and a TQ curve that gained 40-50hp throughout will definately be a totally different car.......I think they exceeded my expectations....I was expecting a 20-30 hp and TQ gain and to gain that over a fully ported PI head is awsome......I just wanna see how much power can be achieved without an overbore.........I think 400 will be achieved soon.....if not more......I think it can be possible with 281 CI's but you will need a good breathing intake.......I hope the port job I am getting on my runners helps these puppies flow up top......plus TFS still has to finish the "R" version and will probably be out later this year.....not sure what that entails but we shall see......

I look forward to seeing your gains since you are already making impressive NA power.
