Are the vents still functional, do they get good airflow still? If not I think it would just look better to lose the vents and just make it like a normal pod.

I have the autometer version that leaves the ends for a/c, but without being able to angle them up and down, it's a little annoying.
Now yours won't be able to go left or right. lol.
Yes, the vent will flow plenty of air, actually more than the "cage". The cross-sectional area of the openings in this design is approx. twice that of the 'cage'.
Directional control is always the trade-off with the VentPod. There isn't any good way around it unfortunately, not without a complex design, which would make them somewhat unaffordable.
Thanks for the feedback guys! I think I'll "fill" these in a bit and sand on them some to get the finish looking better, and then I'll paint them to match the donor dash I have. I'll repost when that is done to give a better representation. I kind of jumped the gun a bit in my enthusiasm to share. You know how that goes...new toy - share it with all your pals.
It's not any different than the 'gauge cage', right? I mean, that design has sold thousands upon thousands of units, with little complaints.
This design takes that idea and makes it much simpler. This design doesn't require any chopping or cutting or bolting, etc. for installation. It's just easier.
Truth be told, I think this design is actually cleaner than the gage cage. And, the gauges are angled toward the driver.
I've had the same setup in my '01 since '02, with zero issues.....no fogging or anything of the sort. Here's a pic of that....
The difference betwen this and the gauge cage is that these gauges are actually in the registers. With the gauge cage, the gauges just mount in the center and then you have separate registers on the side.
I'm pretty sure your gauge is still in the air flow with the cage as well. That is to say that the air is blowing on the back of the gauge. I don't think there is any sort of "close-out panel" used with the cage. It's basically a couple of flat plates and brackets. And if I recall correctly, you have to do some cutting and chopping on your existing parts, right?
Regardless, that has no effect on the gauge. The gauge will not fog.
They look kind of Mickey Mouse to me. Then again, I don't like the gauge cage either, regardless of how many thousands of them have been sold, though I'd buy one of them before these. To me, accessory gauges belong on the A-pillar.
