I am in the process of switching an 88 cougar over to carb, and I cant get the stock efi upper intake plenum off. The plenum will move clockwise and counter clockwise a little bit, but thats it. I removed the four bolts, thats all I saw, is there more?
What size belt should I use to bypass the smog pump (I also took the ac off).
How do you install a pilot bearing?

Yes there are bolts under the 5.0 HO plate. Gotta take that plate off to get at them.

i was not sure about the cougar having a HO plaque - good info Big J.

if it is like a stang, you will need torx bits (IIRC) to remove the plaque. good luck.

No it is just a 5.0 I was using the mustang plate as an example. Sorry for the confusion it is late and I missed the whole cougar part of your question. But there will still be bolts under the plate.

Oh and those torx head bolts can be a pain to remove. Make sure you have a GOOD bit and the right size don't wanna strip them out.

Screw those torx bolts... If they're old, you'll never get them out.. You'll end up screwing up your torx bit. Just take a dremec and cut the heads off.

Guess I'll have to buy, or borrow some. Do you know how to install a pilot bearing?

Getting the old pilot bearing out is the trick (if it doesn't play nice). Putting the new one in should be cake. "Tap" it in with using a socket that's the right diameter to cover the bearing.
