What's the best way to troubleshoot inop speakers? The left front (door) speaker in My wife's Subaru isn't working. Not sure if it's wiring or the speaker itself. I don't have an extra speaker to hook up. Is there any way to test the wiring with a multimeter?

I'd rather not spend the money to replace a speaker, then find out it's a wiring problem.

Other ideas?

Ohm out the speaker to see if it's bad. It's probably supposed to be a 4 or 8 ohm speaker, so if it reads 0, or close to it then you know the speaker is bad.

I have used a battery (AA or 9v) to check speakers in the past. You could do that. Just touch the terminals to the terminals on the batt for a split second. If the speaker is good, you'll get a little "pop" and the diaphragm will move.

An 8 ohm or 4 ohm speaker does NOT refer to resistance. A good speaker will meter out at a "dead short". When the meter reads "infinity" (circuit not complete) on the meter, it is no good. (8 and 4 ohm refers to the "load" (impedance) that the speaker puts on the amplifier, when in operation.)

OK, it's not the speakers. Any ideas how to troubleshoot the wiring and the stereo unit itself?
