I have a truck lower and I was wondering if it is the same as the systemmax lower because it looks very similar.

my buddy runs a truck lower and he says it is the same.

I would venture to say yes because that is what I always heard too.

He's talking about a different holley intake.

The intake 90whitepony is talking about is indeed very similar to a truck intake. As a matter of fact many years ago before there were any performance intakes out there for the 5.0, people used to put truck intakes them..

I believe it’s the Systemax I that is similar in design to the stock Mustang lower and the Systemax II that’s similar to the truck. Although both are “similar”, they are still in dire need of a good port job. The car and truck intakes both suffer from a huge dogleg in runners 1 and 5 and require a weld/port fix to flow anywhere near comparable to the Holley. Even ported though, the Holley will still support more volume than the truck lower.

You can't get a truck lower opened up anywhere close to the Holley. I try to discourage guys who ask me to port their truck lower intakes. You can't even really get them close to a 1250 gasket without breaking through a bunch of runners. That's my experience with looking them over, but maybe I haven't seen every Ford truck lower casting.

No, I think you're right Tom. That's why I was stating that even ported they wouldn't support the same kind of air flow of the Holley. Mind you, I've also heard that the Holley intake is pretty overkill for most street engines as well. Any truth to that?

The Holley is a big intake for a 302-306. You can make good power with it, but you have to choose your combo correctly. In any event, it won't be a big low-mid range power maker, mid-higher rpms is where it will shine - it wants to rev or it wants cubes with that big cross section.

The GT40/Cobra/Explorer is a better choice than an intake using the truck lower.
