1. Does adding timing = horsepower? torque?

- My tuner has it set so i can adjust timing to a certain degree in either way. I set it all the way advanced in each rpm bracket, is this the best thing for performance? I want all the power i can get, and theres no HINT of detonation or any problems.

2. Leaner = more power?

-- again, my tuner has it set so i can adjust certain amounts. I have it all the way lean as he allows. No signs of anything, ive made many 6k passes with this. Is this the best thing?

no.. I meant a tuner like the guy who tuned it. Performance Evolution. not gonna rant on and on about him but basically the guy knows his business. features in MM&FF a year back, just dont want to bother him with small questions right now.. but yeah, it was tuned.. but he said he has enough respect for me to give me a window to play with.. tho i know nothing about tuning, just installed all the parts.

If it's making good power and you have no signs of detenation or pinging then leave it alone. You know the old saying... if it ain't broke don't fix it.

But both of your statements are true. Advancing the timing and leaning out the fuel will get you more power.

Yes and no on both. You can advance timing to increase efficiency up to a certain point. After that, you lose. Same with leaning it out. The factory settings are pretty conservative so they don't get warranty work up the ass from people running into problems. Each individual car can be optimized on timing and mixture to perform better but that would mean a whole lot of work for Ford.

haha.. your preachin to the wrong crowd. Although sometimes i agree that these thousands of dollars wouldve been much better spent on a velocity kit from jms, ... acctually thats a fact.

Definitely money is better spent on the Velocity or Mongoose kit. I just bought a Mongoose kit by the way.

performance evolution just did my tune and it it great..he also left it open for me to make some adjustments if i wanted to.....to answer your question yes you will make some more power but be carefull!!!!!!

Both are true but watch out for detonation. And in the hot summer with a super hot intake air charge, the chances of detonation increase... So even with a great tune you may have to be careful in high engine load or high outside heat conditions. Cheap gas can also get ya.
