trunk floor template?

I am trying to build a trunk floor that covers the whole thing and extends into the wheel wells.

I measured several hundred points in the trunk and the distances between them. I drew it up and calculated where any obstructions like the fuel pipe are (Sorry, I am a geeky IT guy everything gets plugged into a computer)

Anyway, Tomorrow I am going to attempt to build this floor and after doing all of the work, it dawned on me that I should check and see if a plan already exists on the web somewhere that I could print out.

Anyone know of one? If not, I will have one to share if mine works.

I have seen other people do this, but I don't know of any actual plans for it. You probably were anyway, but if I might suggest using a cardboard template to get started.

I have done my trunk with plywood with carpet covering. I had to make three different pieces of plywood and butt them together. They wouldn't go in as one piece or even two. Check into that.

I also have plywood with carpet. Its in two peices. basically one big piece stopping parallel with the car at the point where the spare ties in. then another small peice butts against it hiding the jack underneath (in the 'hole' of the corner of the trunk).

Forgot to mention I put in the "flat floor" when the drop in fuel cell was added.

How do you plan on attaching the plywood or whatever material to the floor? mine is just sitting in there with a tight fit, but I do plan on attaching it somehow.

I hadn't given it much thought. I measured it out, and have a full size piece made of lots of poster board. The plan is to have it extend over the wheel wells, and I am considering filling the wheel wells with that "Great Stuff" from Home Depot. It is that yellow foamy sticky crap that expands. I figure this will eliminate some road noise.

I had planned on letting the floor just sit firmly w. a tight fit like you mentioned. This might sound a bit corny, but I may use a router to cut out a circle in the ply wood and replace the hole with one of those really strong magnets like from the back of a speaker. I figure 4 of those will hold it down pretty strong against the metal in the trunk.

I dunno, just a thought. Still brainstorming at this point.

i plan on using some masonite covered in carpet, with cubby holes on the sides for jack, jumper cables and stuff on mine. i also plan on getting one of the tank armor things for the top of the gas tank so i will probably devise some kind of bracket that uses the gas tank bolts to hold the carpeted pieces in place.

I screwed plywood at the backside of the 1/4's at the wheel wheel lip and at a piece of wood that is screwed in from the trunk hang down. From there, I cut precisely the three pieces of wood that are wedge betwen the sides. I then put 1" x 3" under the plywood for structure and support and put them across, tying into one another so they became one unit in theory.

like somebody else said,I dont think 1 piece will go in,its gonna have to be separate pieces,also becareful what you store on the sides,they can roll around and put dings in the 1/4 panels(i learned the hard way )

I actually built my trunk floor out of fiberboard. It's a stronger than the package tray material. It's one solid piece with a hinged flap at the back for shock access.

Update

Well, I have begun mapping out the trunk incase anyone else is doing this, I have included some images of my progress:

Step 1: Measured and mapped out my trunk floor on paper

Step 2: Put the measurements into photo shop in a real size grid

Step 3: Mapped it out in real size on poster board

I am building this thing, and as someone above mentioned, it ain't (I'm from Texas, I can say that) going to fit as one piece.

So the question is how can I split this thing into 2 or 4 pieces, but carpet it as one? I think carpeting it after installation will prove to be a HUGE pain, so I am thinking maybe carpet the individual pieces and not worry about the seam.

I personally wouldn't worry about the seams. However, if it's a big deal to you, try making it "hinged" in some way. Make it fold up into one piece that will fit through the trunk opening and the unfold to cover the other areas. Or, you could just deal with the seams.

I found I can do it w/ 2 pieces. Here is the progress so far:

I filled the whell wells w/ Great Stuff. I fear this will prove to be a mistake later in lfe, but for now, it should help reduce some road noise, and I can quit losing crap in them.

Hmm, not sure if the Great Stuff was "great" idea. But, who know, it may never be an issue. Worst case, you just created a "previous owner" story for the next person who buys your car.

I like the closed off sides. BTW, how'd you mount them/get them to stay there? Keeping with that question, how has everyone mounted down their floor panels?
I've been thinking of doing just such a project to my fastback but I haven't come up with an exact plan of what I want to do yet. Also I want to put in some subs and an amp and show them off a little.
With that said lets see some more pictures of inside your trunks! Man I'm gonna hate myself for saying that...lol
