Trunk Ideas

Today, I built my box for my sub. I was going to add the amp into the box with the sub but, I went against it because the amp needs to breathe so I won't over heat. Now I don't know where to put the amp in my car, but I don't want to put it in my area where my spare tire is. Also, I would want to have as much trunk space as possible. Anyone have any ideas? Pictures would help.

Thanks

PS: My box is 18 x 14 x 14 (L x W x D)

How much space is there between your rear deck and the enclosure? I used a trick I got from Volkswagen and hung the amps in a "cage" off the rear deck. If you don't have the Mach shelf in there, there is all kinds of space for them to breathe. I have also simply turned amps upside down and mounted them on rear decks, but I don't recommend it as heat would then rise through the amps circuit board instead of through the intended heatsinks. BUT, I've never had one go bad hanging it upside down, it's just that the possibility is there.

While that works, I like to attach the parts seperately so a thief has to actually spend some time to remove my ****. No grabbing a box and making off with extra stuff. The amp may also fit under the passenger seat- but it's unlikely.

Good point, but in my case, the box doesn't fit and now that it fits in the trunk it's really hard to take out. You have to first take the spare out and move the carpeting and then slide the box into the empty space and left...hmmm... maybe I shouldn't have said that now someone can steal it from me :(

There is no problem mounting a amp to a box. You just need to stay away from directly mounting it to metal, This will cause a ground loop and you will pick up frequency noise in the music.

ive got 6 subs running in my suv @ 1.3 ohm and the amps are mounted upside down and in there own enclosure and i dont overheat. You just have to test it out The amp will never blow it will go into protection mode till it cools enough.

Im sorry about you wifes vibrating box, You might want to get that checked out! :)

On my old 95 GT, I had a custom box for two 12's, and had the amp mounted on the back of the right backseat. Trunk space was still decent also because the box was built to fit flush against the angle of the backseats.
