I just ordered a new shifter and it should be here Wed.
I will be changing the tranny fluid at the same time.
The dealer said synthetic would help the cold 1-2 shifts.
Should I go with the level in Fords TSB (3.8 qts)
or with the Owners Manual (fill it till it comes out the hole)

Did the TSB level help anyones 1-2 shift when the tranny is cold?

The tranny will hold well over 4 quarts if you fill it until it comes out the hole. That is way too much fluid. Do the revised level and be done with it, pour the new fluid through the shifter base while it's off, makes it real easy.

I used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF, the fluid fill level should be 3.2 to 3.4 quarts.

You may want to wait

If you are having the 1-2 grind you should wait until it is fixed before putting on the shifter.

My experience the lower fluid level did not help my 1-2 grind.

Did you have the Tremec 3650 TSB done to take care of the grind? Had mine done this past summer and it is nice and smooth now.

If it's in the 20's or low 30's it will feel a bit notchy going into 2nd, but no grinding.
I took it to the dealer and they said it was normal, but of course the night I left it there it was only in the 40's...Of course it had been in the 20's for 3 days in a row before that. They said to throw some synthetic in it.
