Well this morning i got up and did the tune-up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, new tranny fluid, and did seafoam, and man was it hilarious, i put it thru the brake line, and waited 30 min, and went out for a cruise, man was it smoking, i couldn't see vehicles behind me and man does it run smoother especially at idle, now i just need to change the pvc valve and engine oil, im just a little lazy right now.

how often should pcv valve be changed? What would a bad pcv valve do to a car? just wondering

Seafoam does make the car smoke.. And makes it run better.

I'm guessing, but I think the service interval on a pcv valve is like 30k miles. It's pretty long for sure.

BTW, way to go on the tune up Guero. Sounds like your car was due. Enjoy.

The PCV valve is a screen in a grommet in the lower plenum at the very back. It allows positive crankcase pressure to vent back through the motor to keep pressures down. So the oil-rich air that builds up in the crankcase (due to blowby that is present on any motor) runs through that valve, where the screen is supposed to trap the oil to prevent it from running back into the intake and thus the combustion chamber. However, the thing can get old and not catch the oil like it's supposed to. This will result in lower gas mileage and performance, due to the oil being burned in the combustion chamber. It will also leave oil residue on the inside of the intake manifold. If you pull the hose off, a lot of times a little oil will acutally drip out of it. An oil seperator solves this problem.

yeah i needed a tune, it fills smoother. ill see how it goes on gas mileage

what a pcv valve cost and is it easy to change? does it just pull off or do i need a wrench? i will like to replace it but have no tools at my apt

Back of the lower intake by the firewall. Pulls right out. I think they cost about $10 or so. Clean your screen or get a new one. Along with a new rubber grommet and pcv valve.

Get a new grommet and screen when you do the PCV valve. All together it's pretty cheap to do the whole thing (and probably worth while)

Where do you put the seafoam? In the gas? Where do you get seafoam?

It can be put in the gas (to clean the fuel system: filter, injectors etc..), in the crankcase (to free stuck lifters etc.), or through a vacuum line (brake booster works best) to clean the combustion chambers. You can buy it at any parts store. It's like $5 a can.
