I recently went looking for alternative tuning & datalogging software for the Quarterhorse. I've used Binary Editor for the last few years, and it's absolutely great software. My only problem is that I'm locked to a single computer at a time, and I have a license for the older version (2010) that didn't have the license-dongle option and for which updates aren't happening any longer. So rather than spend the money for an upgrade, I thought I'd look into the alternatives. Fellow cheapskates might appreciate this, and it may be very old news to some. Don't get me wrong, Binary Editor's worth every penny, but more options are always better than less.

TunerPro RT is listed on the Moates site as one of the alternatives. Their price ($39) is the optional cost of registration. You can download the fully functional software for free, and you're encouraged to register if you like it. Otherwise it works just fine, with a 10-second delay timer when you open it up. Nothing too intrusive, but a good reminder that the folks who wrote this fine software would appreciate a donation.

The major reason for this post is that a lot of the links to software or calibrations I found were outdated (a few years old now), or completely broken, even though the software is still under active development. I was also confused when TunerPro messed up my BIN files from Binary Editor, and the values were all out of whack. So here are some links if you want to check it out, valid at the time of this post:

TunerPro RT v5 Download: http://www.tunerpro.net/downloadApp.htm
CBAZA & GUFB Definitions: http://support.moates.net/ford-tunerpro-definitions-for-quarterhorse/
Other definitions (including OBDII): http://www.tunerpro.net/downloadBinDefs.htm
Plugins (including Innovate Wideband): http://www.tunerpro.net/downloadPlugins.html
QuarterHorse USB Drivers: http://support.moates.net/troubleshooting-usb-driver-installation/

The Quarterhorse pulls and pushes 56k bins, you'll want the "XDF" (tuning definition) from the Moates link above, and NOT the definition straight from TunerPro, which is 64k. You can convert your BIN using the TunerPro "Bin Stacker / Splitter" and have it work with their definition, but this way you can go back & forth between BE and TunerPro without that step.

In the same zip, you'll find the "ADX" (data acquisition definition) which has a few very rudimentary dashboards in it to visualize your data. You can create your own dash using any available parameter, which takes a tiny bit of tech-savvy to figure out where to locate them on the screen or to translate data into useful infomation (an EGR-sensor Wideband signal for example). I've got a modified ADX with a dashboard that has most of those parameters I'm happy to share with anyone who wants it, just send a message.

Happy tuning.

I just tried opening up my binary editor 2010, and it will not load... Last time I used it, it worked fine. Not sure what that is all about. Maybe I will look into this.
Cool, I'm very glad a few folks found it useful. If you do have BE already and the correct license, I'd try contacting Mr. Clint himself, he's typically very helpful. At some point I saw a comment where he'd suggested folks disable auto-updates, that might be part of the problem. Or if you need to re-install I'm sure he could point you to the software. TunerPro is very different from BE, personally I like BE better to be honest. But in a pinch it works, and I was mostly looking for something that I know can read & write tunes and make some small tweaks. I don't know if I could have as easily learned to tune with TunerPro, but once you know your way around, it's pretty decent (especially for the price).

I am in the exact same situation!!! I have an old chip in my '95 but my new '93 needs one also. I bought BE/EA in 2009 and I lost the laptop about 2yrs ago.... Anyways, I have a new QH coming in the mail monday and it would be helpful if I was able to make sense of TunerPro before my chip gets here. I am having trouble finding the BIN files, or the template downloads! I have 24# injectors with a OEM Maf, it should not be that hard to tune it!

I am glad to see others that are wanting to use Quarterhorse for there tuning needs as do I. Here is another alternative website that has been a huge help to me as I hope it will to you as well.

He also provides base tunes for both GUBX and CBAZA def's

OK, that website was not working last night so I thought that it had been shut down or something! Thanks!!!

This is a great place to get the bins: http://www.eecanalyzer.net/strategies

The strategies you can find at the link above.

My QH just came in the mail a few minutes ago!!! I expected it to be monday before it got here, so I am not really prepared for it... Do you know what to use for 24# injectors and OEM MAF? On my '95 I was able to just use the J4J1 cobra strategy but I had a calibrated MAF also... I remember that there was a steep learning curve for Binary Editor, I hope that TunerPro is a little more user friendly! Thanks

TunerPro's probably less user-friendly, but the price is right. The learning curve is still there, it's really the same process.

Adjusting for upgraded injectors is easy. Install tunerpro and install the Quarterhorse drivers. Get the strategy and bin that matches your computer, all from the links above. If you have the Quarterhorse installed and the ignition on, you can also download the stock bin from the computer. Open tunerpro, and open the strategy (xdf). Then open the stock bin.

Open the scalars. Navigate to Injector High Slope and set to your injector size (24 at 43.5psi probably, if you're running stock fuel pressure and the injectors are rated at 43.5 psi, then you'd want to enter 23).

Navigate to Injector Low Slope and enter 30. This value is used at low pulse-widths where injectors flow more fuel than their rating.

Injector Breakpoint and Injector Min PW should also be adjusted. The tweecer guide gives some good recommendations for those. For 24lb injectors I'd leave the breakpoint alone and set MinPW=1.0ms Those should get you close enough for the computer to adjust the rest of the way.

Then, go to Functions -> Injector offset vs Volts. Select all of the "mSecs" values. Select "multiply" and enter a value of 0.79 (which is 19/24). Click 'Execute.' Close the Injector offset vs Volts editor window and click 'Yes' to commit your changes.

Do the same thing you just did for Injector offset for Functions -> Cranking Fuel PW vs ECT.

Save your new bin (use a new name) using File->Save.
Write your new bin to the QH (connect QH, use the down-arrow icon in TunerPro to write).
Rev up your engine!

If you change your MAF later, just make sure to get the transfer function sheet with it. Then just make the adjustments at Functions->MAF Transfer. You don't need to do anything now, since you've just calibrated your computer to use 24lb injectors with your stock MAF.

Oh man, if I remember right, BE has templates that you can download and install, like 24#... I was never brave enough to go and change the values by hand... Its cool, I am just going to have to learn more. I just got it in that mail, so I have not even installed the hardware yet. I dont remember it being too hard though

I am starting to wonder if I made a mistake after reading a couple more articles. Other guys seem to think that a MAF change would have been the easy way. It didnt seem like my '95GT ran right until the QH though, it had hesitation and intake backfire. I didnt realize that the factory MAF was 55mm and would cause restrictions by itself. Here is the article that I am reading...
