I have a procharged 02 GT I want to put methanol on this spring to add a little power and safety to my engine. I was wondering if my tuner could tune the ECU to pull timing if there was a pump failer or low pressure in the system to prevent from detonation? I was looking at "safe injection" from snow performance but there kit is $200+ for the safety kit. I will be going with the Stage 2 boost reference if that matters. Has anyone done something like this? would I have to put my meth nozzle before the MAF/IAT sensors?

You intall the meth injector as close to the blower outlet as possible. Iven if you're using a blow-though, don't feed through the MAF is you can avoid it.

Ya I am intercooler and have a blow-through MAF which has the IAT sensor built onto it. If the ECU was going to pull timing it would be because that sensor was relaying to the ECU that the intake temps were to high. But I can see injectiong water into the MAF might cause some problems...... But is it possible to get the ECU to back out timing if it senses to much heat in the discharge tube?

It is but that is not the way I would have it tuned. You would have 'lag' as the temp sensor adjusted itself. An activation window switch would be the way to go IMO. The temp sensor would oeprate independantly as a fail safe if the temps rose above normal for whatever reason.

I didn't explain that well at all.

The pressure activated window switch for the meth injection would determine the fuel and spark tables the EEC will use.

Meth activated - EEC uses tables B

Meth not activated - EEC uses tables A

In both cases, the IAT is going to function and provide feedback to the EEC about charge temp.

In other words... BOTH things have to happen for the EEC to use the fuel and spark tables for meth. It has to be ON, it has to FUNCTION, and the IAT sensor has to be within a specified range in order for the EEC to use the tables designed for meth or it begins to pull MAD timing out.

Better?

Yes that explains a lot, but would I have to mount the meth nozzle before the IAT to get the correct reading with the methanol cooling the charge?

Not necessarily but it's a good idea. Let's say for the sake of argument that your meth injection activates... the light is on, the pressure switch at the nozzle see's pressure and tells the EEC that all is good to go. For whatever reason though, let's say that the pressure is weak or that the nozzle is clogged. Your EEc will be in the correct fuel and spark table for meth injection but the discharge temp are really high. It's that feedback from the IAT that cause the EEC to start pulling timing based on that discharge air temp.

Well with all that said i guess all i would need now is to find some kind of wiring diagram..........thank you, your information has been very helpful.

The diagram for the window/pressure switch would be nearly identical to one you might find for a nitrous system.

Activation switch enrgizes the --
Pressure switch

both made to let the EEC know that it's on and working.

I would tune for windshield washer fluid and leave a small safety buffer to account for changes from gallon to gallon. It's easily accessible, and cheap!

I thought about the washer fluid but i only put about 3k the on this car a year so i think im just gunna go wit the boost juice its about 10 a gallon. I will see how much i go through then change it up if it gets to expensive next year...

So i was also wondering, how would i wire this switch into the ECU? To tell it to run more timing or not and were can i find the switch?

This is the part where you and your tuner need to get together and figure out what your plan is going to be.

I run an Anderson PMS and it comes with provisions for that (and other things as well).

most people run a chip with a switch to change between methanol and non methanol tunes , its faster than having to stop and flash the car

Injecting water onto the MAF will cause huge problems, the car will start stalling, and running very rough, general rule of thumb stay upstream of you maf atleast 12" so you dont get blow back onto the MAF sensor, you need to mount your METH nozzle as close to the TB as possible, I have also seen the TB or intake drilled and the METH nozzle placed directly there. You want to make sure that your Methanol tank is mounted higher than your pump as the pump is a push style not a pull style pump. you can Add LED lights to your pump wiring to show when your pump is physically pushing methanol, and a low tank LED sensor on your tank to warn you of a low Methanol condition. both of these lights should be mounted in a clear visible place. Chances of your meth injector cloggin is extremely low, but just check it from time to time to ensure that things are flowing smoothly. You tuner can use a progressive controller to start the meth at a certain boost pressure and gradually to its peak boost, to ensure you are getting a good flow at upper Boost levels. Methanol in your case will really only benefit you with a tune for the higher octane since you seem to have a pretty good intercooler. I gained about 40 at the tire with Methanol, but Since I am hitting a tad more then 20PSI it is a must for me. Any questions just PM me. thanks
