Tuning question

I have read a lot of talk on getting the ecu re flashed or using a chip. I have a stock block with no smog stuff, headers, full exhaust no cats, and I spray a 150 wet shot. I am interested in getting the eco redone to accomidate the mods with heads in the near future. I have heard that Nitrous and chips do not mix.

Any thoughts?

I would stay away from generic chips, they try to be a one size fits all kind of solution. Problem is, not all motors require the same tuning.

The next best solution is to take the car to a dyno tuner. This will ensure that all tuning changes are ideal for your car.

The best solution is to invest in a tuning hardware/software package such as the TwEECer or PMS. This will allow you to recal the computer for each modification you make. If you would be interested in learning about the EEC in your car, then this is the way to go. If you just want to get in and drive, then take the car to the dyno tuner.

i am interested in learning more. I am just not sure what the best to buy is. Do piggybacks work with the stock computer?

A chip that plugs into the J3 port (back of the computer) will subsititute its own programming for the programming in your EEC's ROM. There is no way the stock program will supercede this. The EEC will not 'learn' around a chip - if the tune does not modify adaptive fuel, than eventually the AFR will change and sometimes not for the better.

There are several types of chips - some are off the shelf - made for a generic combo, one size fits all. Others are based on a perofrmance tune but with added changes specifically for your combo and any requests you make. We utilize the latter - we send out a questionnaire to people who want chips from us asking specific details about the combo so we can customize it for that particular vehicle.

But they are all chips, are there any piggy back systems I can use that work well? Also, how much would I expect to pay fo a custom tune? I live in middle GA. Are there any good shops around? Atlanta is 90 miles.
