Today I just got back from failing an inspection in Texas after spending $600 on legal exhaust parts. I did very well on the mid-range rpm emission tests but on the idle i did horrible, with a standard of 220 my car got an 852. I have a tweecer and was wondering what changes i can make to my tune to get me to pass. i also have 24# injectors.
thanks

Is the complete emissions system there and in proper working order?

Do you have the egr scalar disabled?

Are you trying to idle at low speed?

How do your k's look at idle?

Have you optimized your tb air flow?

Have you optimized your neutral idle air flow?

That ought to be enough to start with!

Uh, 220 what?
Dealing with high NOx will be different than dealing with high HC.

Grady made a sweet list of things to consider though.

i dont have any of the egr, i have it capped off at the x pipe. but i was thinking about uncapping it if it's not noisy for the next time i try and pass. maybe ill get lucky and it will let some extra exhaust out before it gets to the sensors.
i optimized my tb air flow and neutral idle air flow like you did grady from your website. is there any other ways i can make my car run cleaner and leaner at idle?

Without any cats its going to be near impossible to pass the sniffer.

My best advise would be either to get some cats or put on your stocker if you have it just for the test.

OR

Try giving the test guy 30-40$ extra and get out of the car saying "I really hope this thing passes" hand them the way extra money and walk away into the waiting area . 30-40 extra to someone who makes prob. 8-9$ hr (if its like the one we just got rid of in MO) is not bad for letting one slip threw.

i do have cats, i just dont have any of the egr stuff hooked up. i thought about giving him some money to not put one of the sensors in the tailpipes that way it reads from fresh air. i also bought some guaranteed to pass emissions stuff. but my question is, how can i make my car run super lean right before i take it in using the tweecer? please help, im sick of spending money on this stupid car!!!

You went to the trouble and expense to get the cats

You're gonna have to hook up the other stuff
or
you'll fail the visual for sure.

The egr is no biggie as far as being a power robber
and
if the truth be made known ...
neither are cat pipes ... that is ... high flow cats

I'd just hook up the egr and ensure those few things I listed above are as they need to be.

You'll pass ... I did

I'm about to go through emissions too and I don't have the EGR or smog pump, but I do have cats...I'm really worried about the 347...

ok i'm going in tomorrow to try and pass, i was thinking, would i get much luck if i just leaned the crap out of my maf curve until it barely ran at idle just for the sniffer?

Can you request a waiver? Here in MD one can request a waiver, which I did, for 6 months to buy some time. I was worried like everyone else. But in the end I passed with flying colors. As a matter of fact my car did what is known as a "Fast Pass" - passed the test in a very short time. I run off-road H-pipes, except when it's time for emissions (I put the stockers on for the test and visual). I have all emission stuff running and my stock cats are like brand new since I only used them for about 2-3 months when I purchased the car. I've passed emission this way since I purchased the car in '95.
