Hello guys, I was told to come here for some input regarding my newly turbocharged 351W. I have been running the engine (N/A) and trans on an MS3x and Microsquirt for the last year, but I couldn't call my tune optimized.

The motor is a stock F4TE short block, Comp XE266HR cam, SVO Lightning lower and Explorer upper intake, 70mm TB, 60cc chamber BluePrint Engines cylinder heads (should make for 9:1 compression), DNA "GT45" turbo, 4" dump to dual 3" straight-through exhaust. MS3x + Microsquirt trans control, 40# Accel injectors, FiTech HyperFuel surge tank/pump ("supports 800HP"), stock TFI ignition.

On paper this engine should be about 350HP. I have a "5-pound" spring in the wastegate, but it's eBay stuff so I'm not sure what to expect. Per injector calculators, I have enough injector for about 550HP at 85% DC. Not looking to blow my transmission up right away either, so I'm hoping to keep the power modest.

Transmission is a 4R70W with a shift kit and I have a 3.70 ratio axle.

I've attached my current tune. Again, it's drivable (I've put thousands of miles on it), but I don't claim it to be otherwise good or optimized. I have done some offline tweaking in the boost range but the engine hasn't been run on it. I'm open to all suggestions if you see something strange.

I'm hoping to have the exhaust system finished or complete enough to drive this coming week, so I will be able to make some logged runs soon.

Thanks!

Honestly I really need a datalog of the car running in order to give you a detailed breakdown of what I see

Hopefully this week. I'll be getting my exhaust kit today but may need to order another couple bends/brackets/clamps/hangers before I can finish it off. This is a very long car.

I finished the exhaust yesterday, and just drove the car for the first time under boost! I've only seen 3PSI (on a "5PSI" spring in my eBay wastegate), but it already wants to break loose when rolling on the throttle in 2nd gear. Roads are a little damp though. Hopefully the weather is ok this weekend to go for a longer drive and get some good data.

Also, this is amazing. All cars should have turbochargers.

What sort of datalog is going to be most useful. There is a nice area with rolling hills that is good for running the car in different RPM and loads, but it takes me a bit far away from home and I don't have time today, and the weather isn't going to be very good the rest of the weekend.

as a general rule I datalog everything... when something is a bit off then it can be looked at. For general tuning you can start a log before you start the car and then just drive like you normally would

Here is the current tune + datalog. It does have a stumble off idle, not sure if it's accel enrichment or passing through a lean cell. I have licensed Mega Log Viewer HD, but I don't really know how to use it yet.

Updates on the Galaxie - it's pretty quick. I installed a MAC valve for boost control, but quickly overshot my boost target and ran out of injector. I have the duty cycle set to deliver about 8PSI now, and I'm running out of fuel at about 4000 RPM. But, that should be fixed now. I put in a set of Siemens Deka 80# yesterday, so I should be good for any power level I can reasonably get out of this SBE 351W and china turbo. It's snowing now and I won't be able to take the car out to tune on them for a couple weeks though.

Sooner or later, you’re gonna have to come to terms with replacing your chinese wastegate as you start trying to make power.

Why is that? My power goals are modest. At this point, I'm already making more power than I "need". I'm going to want more ring gap, better axles, a built transmission and a roll bar before I wind the boost up much more.

Do some research. Ask most here that are using a turbo. While in a lot of instances you can get away with the Chinese Turbo, the wastegates are notoriously bad. They leak internally, and fail after a short period of time. My personal experience when trying to use them on this current car found them leaking so bad around the valve stem it took almost 15 psi to get a 10 pound gate to open, and all the while air was leaking like mad.

I took it apart to inspect it based on reviews and comments. All looked fine in mine. I'll replace it if/when I have to.

Did you pressurize the lower port to confirm gate pressure?

I did better. I slapped it on my car and sent it. It's a junkyard motor with a Chinese turbo, let's not over think this.
