a 2 bar boosted 1.8l is still only going to make 320ish crank hp. depending on other mods.

I used to be into VWs for a short time when I was younger but then I realized if I want something like that I will just get the real deal, an Audi... or a porch... when it comes to german eng vdub is at the bottom of any sensible person's list.

How did that old saying go, something like "you can make a piece of sh__ fast, but what you have is a fast piece of sh__".

No offense to VW owners but, losing to a Beetle would be humiliating. Hell, it'd be embarrassing losing to a Beetle IN a Beetle just because I was actually driving one to begin with.

my friend ben has a yellow one. he's running 21-22psi on a larger turbo(cant remember the make) 3 inch catless downpipe with 2.5 exhaust with a mangaflow muffler and a tune from apr? i believe. hes also got some wieght reduction done, sparco frts, no back seat, and some other little odds and ends.

the really funny part is that he blew the transmission apart and its been sitting in the garage for 18 or 19 months now, which makes it the fast car that ive never seen move

Since we are all bagging on the beetle now, I can join. But, let me just say, I respect anyone that is realistic about their car and know something about what they are talking about (or admit they know nothing!).

On to the story. At my previous job, there was a tough guy who drove a turbo beetle. He thought it was fast as **** and always talked about it. One day, I ended up riding with him and it felt like a complete dog to me. Anyway, I was driving the 97 in *cough* mexico, and we ran. I waited for him to take off and I punched it. By 70, I was so far ahead it was boring and let off. I made sure to let him get the jump too. Later, I was talking with him at work and he said he wasn't racing. right, at least that's what it looked like.

so, this afternoon i was out driving and i was at a red light at the very front in the left lane, and i needed to turn right in a quarter mile or so, so i just plan on punching it on green so i can get in front of the car to the right of me and turn right.

Who is really the douche bag here? Personally, it really pisses me off when someone speeds up and slams in front of me, then immediately turns. What a jack ass.

I never understood why people get upset about being "beat" (or "what the hell, there's no way that should happen!) by something that's not a Mustang. Who cares?

You can make anything fast if you throw enough money at it.

I also love how anyone not in a Mustang is a d-bag, because they surprised someone...

I just don't get it. You can have 600 at the wheels in a Honda. Aside from the insane torque steer it'd have, if it hooked up, it be fast. But it'd automatically be called "rice" and the driver is a d-bag, by virtue of it being a Honda.

I really hate blind fanboyism.

Granted, the new beetles are pretty fruity, & only a queer would drive 1, but you guys can't bash all V dub owners. I actually own a super clean 86 Jetta GLI that is my DD, & I'm not ashamed to admit, I am a fan of SOME VW's. The late model beetles are excluded from that list of course, I wouldn't be caught dead in 1. BUT, Jetta's, Passat's, GTI's, R32's, older Bugs, & squarebacks are all cool cars IMO. VW's aren't fast cars, but they still can be cool & they are reliable cars. My 86 still has the original motor in it, & I drive it everyday to work with no problems, its a soldier....

Matter of fact, I know this isn't the norm, but last friday, there was a turbo bug up at the track for test & tune, & the car was nuts. It lifted the tires about 3 feet off the ground, had to let out of it about 3 times, & still ran a 10.90 in the 1/4....

Well I skipped past all the crap talk so I may have missed this.

The new Beetle cam in a turbo and a turbo S.
The turbo made 150hp and the "S" made 180hp. It sounds puny cause it is but remember this is an Audi 5valve engine used in the TT and the A4. With simple mods like a chip, CAT and larger exhaust they make up to 300hp and only weigh 3000 lbs. With a kk04 turbo and big intercooler I have seen first hand that engine (in an A4 FWD) make 360 at the wheels.
So yeah, they can pretty easily beat a Stang making 300hp because of the 400+ lb weight advantage, 6-speed with tight ratios and the steep drive gear ratio.

There was a member here a long time ago that had a Beetle, and I "believe" it ran 11's or 12's with a decent MPH to boot.
