Turbo Build

Don't forget jackstands. Turbo cars spend approximately 78% of their life on them.

Don't do any fancy bottom end parts. Stock rebuilt 302 will be fine. There are better options then gt40x, twisted wedge or afr185 would be better. Stock ecu with a SCT chip will be a good idea. Need more fuel pump and your probably going to max out the lines. Trans is going to fall out also.

How much power are you trying to make? That T76 will make some power...probably more than what that stock block and cast crank can handle.

I'd do the h/c/i first. Get it running and driving, then worry about the turbo later.
This way if you run out of money (and it happens), you at least have a good car to drive around and enjoy.

7 grand may sound like alot.
During a complete turbo build, it's not.

I'm about 13k into my 363, tranny and rearend build. Putting a turbo on it would probably be an additional 8-10k for a nice turbo setup(88mm is what I would want if/when I go turbo )

Good point.
Let's not forget the transmission. A TKO setup is a minimum of $2500 these days and with 500rwhp on tap the t5 probably won't even make it a week.

Now having first hand experience at a "turbo build", It all comes down to what you can, and can't do. The turbo was 700.00 and was by far the single biggest expense. Had I stayed true to my original plan and went w/ a Ebay GT45, that would've been cut in half. The waste gates, and BOV (again Chinese pieces) added another 220.00 The 60 lb Injectors were 300.00, although I bought a A2W, an A2A IC can be had for 100.00. The header and material to build it, and the coldside was another 200.00. The silicone couplers, and the T-bolt clamps another 100.00. And I'll concede to a slush fund of 150.00 for stuff I've over looked.

That's 1770.00 if you can do it, or you can just buy the CX Racing kit for the exact same price, minus injectors.

** But after looking at pics of the kit,...it looks to me like you better possess some of those skills.

how many miles on the current motor?

a good 76 mm turbo can make a lot of power.

good luck, it gets expensive if you use good named parts, which I would suggest.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but since we're on the subject.... How much would a quality name brand 88mm ball bearing turbo cost? I don't know how to weld and I have never done any fabricating, so how much (ballpark figure) would it cost to get the tubing fabbed? I figure those would be the most expensive parts to piece together a turbo setup. @GroverDill @madspeed @madmike1157

My non BB Precision 76GTS on my 363 made over 950 at the wheels thru a viper spect t56

Using a 3" downpipe (OMG!) My car is not a racecar so I have never considered larger.

I think my turbo was about 1500 bucks. The hot side was made by a local friends shop ( its flipped JBA 1 3/4" shorties )
I put the cold side together in my garage, easy as could be.

Are you pushing the turbo close to it's limit with that setup? I don't even need to make 950 to the wheels....right now, but I don't want to get a turbo that would be at or close to it's limit giving me 800 at the wheels. I always try to think ahead as though I might want to upgrade/go bigger. So I wouldn't want to get something that's just making it on my 363 and it run out of breath if I put it on a 427.

I'm not sure you're directing this towards me or not but I have driven my buddy's twin turbo'd stroked 3-valve 05 GT.
This is how it went most of the time ---> A lot of tire frying. Was a little scary at times...I don't really like ice skating.

you are concerned about a $1500 turbo

but will swap form a 8k 363 to a 9k+427


I dont see the logic
