My turbo coupe has developed a problem recently where it stalls out upon start-up and has a jumping idle. When starting the car sometimes, it will start right up and seem fine, then just stall out. When it gets warmed up, the idle will go from 900 to about 1500 and will stay there until the car is shut off. I've replaced all spark plugs and put in new ones gapped at .30 along with brand new wires, distributor cap and rotor. Car also has a good IAC that has been cleaned. I've also cleaned the sensor wires on the VAM. The car ran like a top until just recently. I'm thinking maybe it's the TPS? I have a spare TPS from a 5.0 throttle body, will that work with the 2.3 motor? Opinions on what my problem might be?

Wow...it's like Deja-vu all over again...

This is a very popular topic, you may want to do a search.

You need to set your idle properly.

I don't want to start any fight, but, this is why sometime people seems to hate you gio, look how you answer to that.. I know it is some deja vu, but you could just say, "search" and this little word could have done the same work..

"Wow...it's like Deja-vu all over again..." you see what I mean?

I don't mean to jump in and defend everytime, but come on guys.

GET A CLUE! Had he said the same thing to someone in real life, like in the garage, you wouldn't have thought twice.

STOP BEING SUCH BIG BABIES WHO NEED THERE HANDS HELD AND PROTECTED FROM EVERYTHING. Grow up and join the real world. As sensitive as you guys seem to be, (which happens on most sites) I just don't get how you could possibly even leave the house. You guys must be "shut-ins". I would hate for someone to look at you or speak to you. You guys would take it as a personal attack.

Get of the keyboard now and then, experiance life, adn also do some actual wrenching. I dunno how such a large group of non-wrenchers can sit here and dole out advice on wrenching to others on a daily basis.

End of rant. LOL

****, if I'm a non-wrencher... there is nothing on my car that I haven't uninstall and reinstall at least twice,

All is about, that the guy haven't found what is looking for in the search maybe..

Don't be so rude.. And maybe it is because everywhere we go it is the real world that when we "jump" on our keyboard, and think to be on a cool forum with cool guys, we are more irritable on the fact that one of those guy make us look stupid..

I wouldn't have say anything if gio just make some critical remark once in a while, but it seems to be in every post since 2-3 days..

anyway.. it's only my point of view and stay in the subjet of the ****ed up idle..

And I haven't follow all the story in the thread about volvo head, and I'm not saying that gio is an ashhole or anything, I think he's a good mecanic and everything.. It is only the way he's answering..

Click on my sig...it will show how to "properly" set the idle...

I would add this to the faq thread but it seems I already link to my site 5-6 times in there...

Stinger, I have some thoughts on your TPS adjustment tech. http://projecthp.ford23.com/tech.html

If you start the engine and then adjust the throttle stop screw till the engine idles at 700-800 rpms, depending on the last location of the IAC motor, you may not be able to have the motor correct itself to a lower rpm if/when a vacuum port opens up and raises idle.

My general rule is to:

Close the T/B blade down all the way, then screw the idle screw in till it touches and starts moving the blade, then screw it in 1/2 to 1 full turn.
Then set the TPS sensor.

Let me know if this makes sence.
