Turbo Coupe Question

I found an 85 Turbo Coupe 5 speed for sale. Is 85 a good year for the engine/trans combo, to use in a Mustang upgrade? Does it have potential for much more power? Supposedly running for $500 or so.

I am thinking about getting the four cyl five speed I found, but if the T bird is usable, I might spend a bit more and get it.

For the most part, all 2.3T's are the same. There are small differences but nothing that can't be changed/upgraded later. For reference, I'm using an 85TC motor in my 91 LX.
