Turbo Coupe Stock Stereo?

Awile back, my GF bought an 87 Thunderbird TC. No complaints about the car except for the stereo. When we bought it, the guy selling it told us the radio "has a short in it". Everything is still factory....radio, equalizer, speakers. I don't think any of it was ever fooled with so I'm basically wondering where to start with this? No power whatsoever. Simply nothing. I've checked fuses and they're ok, so could someone get me started with some basic stuff to check? This car is stone stock so nothing has been changed or removed.

Take out the radio from the car and use a wire tester to test the 12v and ground wires with the car on. If you getting the right power from the wires then you know that the stereo unit is most likely the source of your problems.
