Awile back, my GF bought an 87 Thunderbird TC. No complaints about the car except for the stereo. When we bought it, the guy selling it told us the radio "has a short in it". Everything is still factory....radio, equalizer, speakers. I don't think any of it was ever fooled with so I'm basically wondering where to start with this? No power whatsoever. Simply nothing. I've checked fuses and they're ok, so could someone get me started with some basic stuff to check? This car is stone stock so nothing has been changed or removed.

Have you plugged in a different radio? Cause it might be bad. I would say you have a grounding problem.

Take out the radio from the car and use a wire tester to test the 12v and ground wires with the car on. If you getting the right power from the wires then you know that the stereo unit is most likely the source of your problems.

I will say that you can put a MONSTER of a system in one of those. I love those cars. Wish I could find one with a blown motor

Ok, so I fugured out that the stock head unit was bad. I've hooked up another head unit and I've got power running through it but I have no sound. The car has a factory equalizer which is has seperate wires running to it for the speakers. What are some ways to troubleshoot for sound problems?
