I just had a thought... You know how in 91 they put dual plugs on the 2.3, and made a few other mods that totalled in almost a 20 hp boost...

Well, would you be able to pull the tougher internals from an SVO motor, stick them inside a 93 motor, then pull the full turbo set from that SVO and hook it up?

Essentially, would you be able to run a dual plug turbo setup? I know the dual plugs give a more efficient burn to each cylinder, so could you get that boost in HP and efficiency?

Just wish to satiate my curiosity.

Uh...you can do it, but the results won't be very beneficial. The heads have smaller combustion chambers, thus creating a neccesity to modify them. You'll have to change out valves, rods, pistons...Drill a hole in the block for a return oil line. And on top of that, why not just put the whole SVO motor in and call it a day???

Better yet, why not sell the SVO engine to someone with an SVO in need of an engine?

The dual plug engines have more low-lift and unported head flow than the turbo heads, but they also have a funky intake port design that limits how far they can be ported and smaller valve stems that do not like turbo heat.

Turboford.org has a lot of info on turbocharging the DP engines.

I think the only DP heads that outflow turbo heads in stock form are the late DP (circa 95?) The early DP heads are awful and porting only makes them slightly less awful.

It's not the extra plugs as much as it is combustion chamber design that works on the DP heads. In truth, the only thing good to come from that setup is the crank-triggered distributorless ignition.

65SC - SVO, Turbo Coupe, the engines all have the same casting numbers don't they? That being the case, I doubt even an MCA judge would be able to discern the true origin of the block and head, and I won't tell if you won't Besides, I think the guy is speaking theoretically rather than actually.

Anyway, the DP turbo thing has been done and done successfully. I think they're limited to 6psi in stock form due to high compression, cast pistons, and no real way to manipulate timing. Throwing a set of forged pistons in might yield a little more useable boost, but I don't know that the cost would justify the return.

Well, I was talking about a handful of CFM and really low lift, like below .300. The turbo heads leave them in the dust with just a cartridge roll clean up.

Or maybe I'm mixed up. There were a lot of numbers flying around boport's thread on TF.

Yeah, Bo's been a busy boy hasn't he. There's been some really good info that's come out regarding various heads and it takes some time to weed through it all.
