Turbo kit finished!!! But so is the head gasket too i think

I would say common consensus for the most part. I mean I suppose there are some people out there that like it, but I guess I don't really know why they would. I mean think about it, it's literally the sound of a huge hole directly in your header when you are hard on the throttle. You tell me if you think that would sound good. Put it this way, I don't think it's that awful, but compared to how it sounds not being vented to atmosphere, I'd say it is.

If it was the only way turbo kits would work it wouldn't stop me from having one, but that's not the case.

Well how do you run yours? And do you have your egr blocked off? If you can throw up some engine bay pics that'd be awesome. I still have some things to button up besides the head gasket.

I imagine his kit is with a pipe on the crossover before turbo, going up to the wastegate, then the wastegate goes back into the downpipe.

Not anything unique. I've seen more of those kits than the ones that have a open WG.

Yeah my wastegate routes back into the downpipe. And yes, I have seen more this way as well.

Well I spent the last 7 hours (something like that) tearing my top end apart pretty much learning as i go. I'm almost to the heads. I guess I have to go find a power steering pump puller just to get to the stupid bolt behind it. That held me up for a while. After that i can pull off that bracket, pull off the header and hopefully get the heads off. Wow so much work.

I think I'm going to invest in a turbo blanket and wrap the downpipe. My turbo is way closer to my alternator than yours. Jeez, I haven't even gotten to experience any wires burning or any headaches like that, the head gasket had to blow before anything like that happened.

BTW Jon where is your intercooler??

You can rent the power steering pulley puller from Advance and Autozone.

at autozone you leave a $40 deposit and get it back when you return it. or if there is a harbor freight close by you can buy a kit. if it happens to be on sale they are worth having.

I guess it didn't throw off the balance of the pulley? What kind of socket for those?

Try using a box end and grind the width down with a grinder a little at a time...

Not as far as I can tell..been that way for 3 years now. Socket..hmm... I can't articulately answer this but it was a 3/8 drive IIRC with a star-like end on it...I had to go out and buy it at sears tho cuz I didn't have it as a normal tool.

as far as the head gasket issue, you really cant get away with stock gaskets and a turbo. I had a great tune, and blew 3 sets in a row, then switched to mls, and drove it for a year, still have the same gaskets with nitrous and never had an issue. In MY case, the "paper" gaskets just couldent hold the cyl pressures

Another question, are your brakes supposed to suck after FI because there's is no vacuum or whatever? They may just have to re-bled. I'll be getting back to the head gasket after the weekend.

The brakes go down pretty far... they don't feel as good as they did before although it's been 3 months since i driven the thing.
