Turbo Motor Swap wiring, why hook one TFI wire to Crank 12V on starter solenoid?

What exactly does the TFI use this 12V cranking signal for? I couldn't figure out why my starter wouldn't engage after a auto to manual swap that I did along with the turbo swap, so I ran a wire from the wire on the steering column that gets 12V when you turn the key to start position to the small bolt on the top of the starter solenoid, only problem is that this wire has
1.43V when not in use, so the TFI is getting this voltage all the time. Might be part of my rough running/ dieing and code 14 "eratic PIP"..... problems. Thanks guys!

I have never heard of hooking up an unregulated power source to a piece of electronics. IMHO that's asking for trouble! Why would you hook up a battery wire to the TFI anyway? The 3 wires to it always come from the ECM from pins 16, 36 & 56.
