Hey guys. I wanna be planted in my seat in an economical manner. Don't we all. Lol. I wanna see low to mid 12's at least. Nitrous is an easy install but I don't like the idea of having to fiddle with filling bottle all the time. Unadvocated by many I know, I mostly street race. The first 3 gears is all I see. S/C's are sooo much money. How difficult is it to plumb in a turbo on these 5.0's. Any sites on it that you know of? I'm wondering what to expect with a poweradder in addition to my existing combo: 2 chamber flowmasters w/o pipes, MSD 6AL ignition, Accel cap and rotor and wires, trunk mounted battery, BBK Cold air kit fender mounted, IAC unplugged due to idle surges, explorer upper and gt 40 lower (coming soon), 60mm TB, 3.73 gears (coming soon), underdrive pullies (coming soon), explorer heads (coming soon), fiberglass cowl hood. Just curious and looking for opinions. Thanks in advance.

if i had the money i would go with turbo, ive never personally been in a turbo 5.0 but i drove my buddys TT RX-7 and when the turbos spool up i almost had an orgasm. You can find a used A-trim online for as cheap as $1000, if you want to keep cost down and want power, you should go for a supercharger

How much of a deal is it to incorporate a turbo into your setup. Would a S/C be an easier install and bring about more HP? I want to be planted in my seat, but at the same time, I don't want to be rebuilding the engine every other weekend. Which of these is the best and safest bang for the buck?

If you get a turbo kit, not a scratch-built setup, then its going to cost $3500+. You'll get more power per psi of boost and a cool sound, though. A blower will be cheaper and easier and probably the best choice since you dont want nitrous. Realistically speaking, probably the "safest" way to hit low 12s is all-motor.

Cheap, Fast, Reliable.

You can only have two.

Well, I don't like nitrous that much either, but if your goal is to get to mid-low 12's and cheaply, then my vote is a 150 shot of nitrous. However if you want to go faster down the line(don't we all lol), my vote would be turbo. Just have fun.

Junkyard turbos are cheap, but unless you can weld, the labor to fabricate the manifold, tubing and whatnot will most likely kill you. I also heard that the a-trims are cheap, but the resulting HP is not too great either, something like 50 real world HP. I think nitrous would be the cheapest.

So true. If you wanna play, you gotta pay- no way around it without some big time good luck. This months MM&FF has a feature car with a homemade twin turbo that runs tens, and he built the whole thing out of a junkyard for cheap; think it was about a grand don't remember. You gotta know what you're doing though! Cheapest, easiest way... get used to filling that bottle.

Yea, I read that article also. I had an IHI turbo off of an 87 TC on my 2.3 L mustang notchback. That was a fun car. I was boosting 20 psi and running along side five O's. But, my 5.0 sounds WAAAAYYYYY better when I wrap it up! 2 chamber flows see to that. I just don't know. I will probably end up going S/C. I want a nocitcable difference for my efforts. The bottle is definately cheaper but there is just something about the spray that I don't like. It would be cool to purge though.

Turbo is the way to go these days, its proven time and time again. That fella your referring to is from TM.com Those boys over there KNOW THEIR $HIT!…Very knowledgeable..Once again, time permitting, supercharger is going up sale, and the turbo is moving in.

A turbo is for sure the best power adder, and there are 2 ways you can go about it. On eis to score cheap factory turbos out of Saabs, 2.3s and such and fabbing the piping yourself if you know someone that can weld. Using 2 4 cylinder turbos will net a lot of power. This can all be done cheaply but requires time patients, thought, and trial and error. The other way is to get a premade kit which will cost you an arm and a leg. Its like $3500+ just for a kit. A cheaper way and safer way is to get a used S/C kit off Ebay for under $2000. They make plenty of power and are much safer than nitrous. I think if you want to stay cheap then you are using a factory short block which means a turbo may be out of the question wince you dont want to boost much past 8 psi. Get a cheap 6 lb S/C kit and call it good.

I got a vortech s trim, I have never been in a turbo 5.0 however to me there is nothing like the whine of a blower at idle sitting at a stoplight with onlookers wondering if that is my ac pulley or thinking WTF is up with that mustang, it doesnt sound normal. Thats my 02

N20 is just as safe as any other power adder these days, if not more so. The bad rap they have is from two decade old stories, or people who didn't do it right. Unlike a blower or turbo, it only strains the engine when you hit the button. A well designed system is almost fullproof, and any engine that can't handle a hit of nitrous can't handle a supercharger or turbo either. Still not saying it's the way you should go, there's just something about it I don't care for either; just making a clarification.

I read the same thing for MM&FF, if your using a shot that's not higher than what your suppose to use, you'll be alright.

things go boooom! when your using a stock 5.0 and your tring to make atleast 350-1 billion HP. The block can't handle that, and neither the heads.

Nothing beats a turbo IMHO, The way the car feels under power is way different form any other power adder. They have lots of advantages over a superchargers, especially in a street car but they aren't cheap. It should not be to hard to find a used $1000 blower for your car, I just installed one on a friends car and he made 400.8hp/398tq with just 6 psi, h/c/i. I also had a hand in fabricating a single 60-1 hifi turbo kit for another friend which ended up costing around $2200 when all was said and done. If you have the money and the mechanical ablity go turbo, if not then its cheap blower or nitrous, which there is nothing wrong with either.

I used to have a turbo charged chrysler conquest. The guy I bought it off had paid 5000 to but a brandy new turbo in it. That was a fun car to drive. The lag was a bitch but I kept pretty close when i'd race my friend's 94 mustang. Then I drove a mustang and learned what real power was, I'll never turn back! Might wanna toss a turbo in, in the future.

don't mean ta hijack the thread here but odogg88, what's it like drivin wit nos? and you might wanna change this "100 shot nos!!! 12.5's all day"
