The DOHC motors had knock sensors, except for the 03-04 Cobras, the SOHC 2vs on Mustang GT motors did not.

'Tis true: No knock sensors on 99-04s.

My experience has been that bad plugs either miss at hot idle consistently or they miss under the heaviest load, like 3rd gear at peak torque. Listen to Don to find your problem. After you let off the gas, the air meter is giving inaccurate readings, either from an air leak like your BOV, or back flow, or whatever. The air meter shows airflow which isn't actually getting to your engine. Because the air meter see flow, the computer throws in fuel which causes an extremely rich condition and causes the miss fire you are seeing. It is extremely common for this to happen on turbo cars. If the mixture is too rich, your plugs won't ignite and the engine will run rough and with no power.

I would look at the BOV first since you said it was a blow thru setup , where is the BOV in relation to the MAF ?

does it feel like the car falls on its face for a second between gear changes?

what fuel system are you running? PPRV delete, pumps, BAP, etc.

the maf is about 1.5 feet away from the bov. the car does feel like it falls off sometimes if i boost through a gear and then let off abruptly. if i go through the gears it doesnt always fall on its face unless the tires are spinning as specified in my original post. i am running a kenne bell bap with 42# injectors

just thought ide bring this thread back with an update. I found the solution to the problem. The issue was a boost leak after the MAF

My vote is that you are over spinning the alternator and the brushes are bouncing. This is causing the alternator output to drop. Without the correct voltage, the PCM flakes out.

Monitor the voltage during a run. Does it drop? Consider getting a larger alternator pulley or don't rev quit so high.

The flashing check engine light means that a misfire is occuring.

i spin my engine to 7000 rpms and little over at times never had any problem with the stock alternator.
