Turn signal problems

turns signals dont work... tryed replacing flasher and did not fix the problem... pulled turn signal switch down and i am geting power to the wipers, and the high beams but no power to the turns signals in the switch. ( i used a test light to see where i was getting power by probing the conectors with the accessory that i was checking on) Is my problem the switch it self? which i want to be damn sure it is cause it is $126. or is it a sort in a wire some where.... a wiring schematic for the turn signals would help a lot too... teh one in tyhe hanes manual is so tiny it is not even visable... thanks

if you are not getting power to the multi function switch, it is likely not the problem. i think they can be had for around 80 bucks new, also (just in case).

i would look for the feed wire/juice to the Multi function switch. i have not looked at the schematics, but that is a good place to start. stupid question, but you checked the fuse, right?

check your hazzard switch and make sure it hasn't pushed a wire out of the back of the switch.the current runs through the hazard switch to the turn signals first.the hazards can still work and the turn signals not.

U are absolutely correct... i was messing around in teh instrement cluster the other day installing a check engine light and the wire must have came out... thanks to the scematics that was posted here i was able to track that down.

Ratrapp, ding ding ding. nice work!

mustang 88gt, how did the CEL install go? i have thought about it, but did not even think that we had wiring to the cluster for it (SD car).

i have not finished it yet but i put the bulb in and it works and there are wires that u can tap into and run to the self test connector... the reason i have not run the wires yet is because i am triping 2 codes cause i did not run wires for the secondary fuel pump or speed senor yet for the MAF conversion... but it should be real easy to do here is

Adding a "Check Engine" light
Another difference between the speed density and MAF cars is that MAF cars have a "Check Engine" light in the dash to alert you to possible serious problems and it makes reading out self test codes much easier. The MAF cars have the "Check Engine" light located in the light panel on the lower right of the instrument cluster. Speed density cars don't have this window, but there is a "Check Engine" position for a light in the tachometer face, though there is no bulb installed. The wire from the EEC to the bulb (via the flex connector) is also missing.
In the '88 harness (not sure of other years), there is a tan and a black/blue wire connecting up to the 'Check Engine' circuit on the instrument cluster flex circuit. For MAF models, the tan wire hooks to the EEC STO/MIL line and the black/blue is for the lamp test out when you start the car. I don't know what these are connected to in an '88, but the test out feature does not work, and the STO/MIL line at the EEC-IV and self test connector is yellow/black. The wires connected to the check engine lamp probably end at some open connector somewhere, but I couldn't track it down, so I cut the tan and black/blue wires off the flex connector and ran a new wire to the STO/MIL wire on the self test connector under the hood (you could also tap in by the EEC-IV, but it was easier for me to go through the firewall. You can get a bulb socket from the HELP! rack at the local parts store, put in a N194 bulb, and voila, you now have a working check engine light.

mustang88GT, thanks so much. i will play with it at some point. (or run a remote light somewhere hidden). thanks again - i had not found info on that yet!

I can't find my flasher under tha dash!!!? :bang:
I checked under the drivers side, behind the glovebox and up under tha radio/AC controls center console... where tha heck is it?? I don't know where it is located in an '89... My 4-way switch is plugged directly in tha back of tha fuse panel

CJ, you said you looked in about all the places we know of. not much else to suggest, unless someone has found one somewhere else.....i dont know what to tell you, bud (we, atleast i, am/are not ignoring you, we just dont know).

yeah it's messed up man, my hazard switch is right behind tha fuse panel, then i looked under tha drivers side, behind my radio and center console and behind tha glove box... nothin... what tha eff man... guess i gotta pay some one to find it :notnice:
