I saw in another thread someone mention to adjust the TV to change the shift points on AOD and will make firmer shifts.

How would this work and why would you want a shiftkit to manage your shifts if you can just do it adjusting the TV?

Well, the TV is not the correct way to do this for a few reasons.

1, yes it will firm shifts up and raise shift points generally, but it will also make the car more kickdown sensitive and the transmission will get jumpy. Also, bumping the line pressure at the cable will tend to cause seal leaks in old trannies. My tranny has been bumped with the TV cable, and both my pan gasket and tailshaft seal leak a substantial amount of fluid. The shifts are break-neck for an old transmission with stock internals, but it leaks fluid like you wouldn't believe, and once it heats up after driving at high speeds or for more than 30-45 minutes, the transmission begins to slip.

Basically this is one of those things, if you're going to do it, do it right. A tranny with a good shift kit is fun to drive. A tranny with a TV pressure bump is a pain in the butt. Trust me, I know.

It might have been me that said to change the TV adjustment but that was as opposed to doing the 1d1 at the track. As stated above it totally messes up the kick down(but on the track you will never have to worry) It's very easy to adjust(takes less than a minute) I have my cable marked so when I go to the track and want told hold longer and harder without the 1d1 I just mash down the pedal and go...when I'm done I set it back to normal.....It will again as above be jumpy if you take your foot off the throttle!!! Hope I didn't confuse anyone

No confusion now. Thanks for the info. Sounds like a good tweak for the track.

What's a PA shift kit? Comparable to Transgo?

It's the easy way ,hahaha performance automatic ..got it from either Jegs or Summit Racing.....it's a complete valvebody as opposed to using your factory one and drilling all the new holes and gaskets and stuff.....works great for the street, but I still wanted an even later shift...... the only other alt would have been 1D1 which is real bad....I actually bought the BM ratchet shifter for the 1d1 and realized I'd blow the thing up!!!
