twEECer and Emissions?

Hey guys,

I just got off the phone with Jay Allen and all seems well with the combo I would like to build except for one big stumbling block.

In Ontario, the e-testing is pretty brutal, visual inspection, drive test and curb side idle. The cam I would need to run with my setup would in no way pass emissions (basically it would make power to 7500 rpm).

Is there a way to down tune with a tweecer that would allow the car to pass emissions relatively easily? something tells me this won't be happening

fack

I have posted several times before about my clean burn results with my Ed cam and Tweecer tuning.

We got strict emissions testing here is Texas with the mini dyno rollers and they check at idle, steady cruise, and elevated rpm levels.

Use the words Texas or annual state emissions with my name in a search and you can see all the details.

btw, my cam lsa is kinda on the low side and the combo would not idle, run you out of the garage due to rich fumes, stall & buck with the t4m0 GT file.

The Tweecer and a switch to the Cobra j4j1 file and a tweec or two from yours truly made good power/drivability, and no probs with the emissions inspection that comes around yearly.

Based on my findings ...... The Tweecer does give one pretty good pcm access to the stuff needed to change which can make things much better than they would first think if they had never had experience with self tuning before.

Good Luck :)

#1 The factory 4 cats + EGR rule. My car literally put out dead zeros in HC and CO (with factory h/c/i though).

#2 fully functional O2 sensors are critical. If you a/f ratio deviates anywhere from 14.64 the emissions output sky rockets (richer or leaner).

#3 You can always rig your smog pump to run all the time. This will make any emissions output insignificant as it will read mostly clean air. Last resort if you still can't pass.

We have a roller dyno deal here as well. Well the smog company is getting the boot out of our state:nice: :D in 07 though:D :D

I have heard of people un-doing the front two or rear two inj. from the inj. and passing.

A good cat, o2's, smog pump and EGR that is working should pass though.

P.S. I only have to deal with passing until sep./oct of 07...then the new law kicks in and I am exempt and dont even have to get the plug in test for CEL's.

We all know that cali has some pretty tough smog and with set up i passed EASILY! I was soo far under on all aspect. One key is the stock H that thing cleans like there is no tommorow. I have a functioning EGR and smog pump as well. I was no where close to failing. That said i got failed for my FPR so i threw the stocker on and passed.
