Have been tuning out all the bugs and finally got the car on the street and to the car wash for the first time in 5 years (i think). Still have some odds and ends to finish up but its semi streetable at least.

I also just got done putting an E85 tune on it. I LOVE THAT STUFF! It's easier to tune, cleaner, and i think it makes the engine run noticably smoother. It's like race fuel but cheaper then gas! Plus im about ready to take it to the dyno and add some noticable timing and hopefully push it to about 20 psi to begin with and see what it will do. If things go the way i think, It should be around 900+ at this point.

So far on just gas and a safe tune it made 678 at the wheels and like 690 torque at 1 bar/14.5 psi. I figured that up to be around 850+ at the flywheel through the loss of that power robbing Powerglide. (usually around 20-24% loss)

So things are going good so far. I will say that it drives like a bulldozer. Lots of noizes from the powerglide and detroit locker. Add in some solid motor mounts and a large load just to get rolling especially in low at low rpms and it drives as smooth as a bulldozer. But stomp the gas and it runs smooth as glass.

awesome project!

what elbow is that? and how much clearance do you have with that hood?

sounds like a candidate for king of the street

That is an Edelbrock EFI Elbow that I and a friend modified. I guess i should give him most of the credit. We cut off the end and welded a piece of aluminum tubing at an angle. and welded the end back on and sanded and painted.

If i remeber right it had enough hood clearance but i wanted a better angle that shot straight to the piece coming out of the fender.

My biggest problem was that the turbos weren't fitting under the hood right. So after months of thinking about it I spaced teh k-member down and just had the front end realigned. But that also gave me an extra inch everywere.

Powerglides are known for being one of the least power robbing automatics out there. Those things are super light. It should be on par with a heavy manual, no more than 18%, unless you have a retarded high stall in it, which wouldn't make sense for a turbo car.

That E85 makes good power, but it is extremely dry. I know most of the guys I talk to out west run a lubricating attitive too it. It's not available here in GA. I'm surprised cars don't run on coal bricks down here.

Actually I just got done reading and article about a guy who dynoed his powerglide. These are the only actual numbers i have seen. I will say that I do like the powerglide because for the power im at it puts it to the ground fairly smoothly so i don't just rip the tires off each time.

Powerglide vs. Manual - 100 rwhp loss on DynoJet... • Speed Talk

Yeah, I gave it a brief read through. Everyone on there is very surprised he lost that much power. Keep in mind, it's a 1000hp Chevy motor. He's probably running an extremely small diameter converter on it. If you have a 9" rearend in your car, that's going to suck some power, but I wouldn't consider the transmission to be a huge loss.

Either way, a glide is a fantastic transmission, escpecially for a turbo car. The lighter your car is, the more it's going to help you out.

Yes, I like the glide. Its noisy but it puts the power to the ground extremely smoothly and makes it almost all useable. I don't know about cruising or excellerating after your already moving but i do know that it is extremely sluggish taking off and the power it seems to be taking to move the car is higher then expected. You have to put a lot into it to get it to move.

Bill from Hendren's Racing Engines (Which is a dirttrack engine builder it seems) later says this in the thread

"We have seen 24/25% loss on every car we have dyno tested with a powerglide as compared to the engine dyno.you would think it should be less but not so far. most manual transmissions loose 15%.Bill"

I honestly think I have a good transmission for my setup. Im just saying far as dyno numbers i think it pulls from them a little. On the other hand I think compared to a manual transmission i think Im going to be faster with my glide.

why is the fan/overflow tank on the drivers side? clearance issues?

Yeah to get everything to clear the wastegates i had to make a custom shroud to were i cut out the electric fan out of the old shroud and carefully bolted it to the new shroud and then turned my overflow tank around to fit the other direction. Its not perfect but does the job.

What really sucks is i bought the specific griffin radiator for our cars and could have saved a lot by buying a universal radiator. Because most of the special brackets on it that makes them cost more i didn't end up using.

Glides FTW, I love mine. I don't have any of the noises you mention though..weird.

They eat up some decent power on the dyno, but I care less about that.

Mine only made 578rw but it went 140mph at 3200ish

Totally agree. Regardless of power loss, you're going to go faster with a glide. Unless you want to chump up a huge wad of cash for a racing manual transmission, the glide will be better.

What tq convertor do you have? Is it an aftermarket case build-up? Do you have a transbrake? Do you use it much. What issues have you had? When you put it in reverse do you have to manually switch the solenoid? What rear end gear are you running?

Got any more pics of the outside? Trying to get some more angles of the bumper. looks good man.

And e85 is cheaper per gallon, but dont you have to spray more e85 per injection? I did a little searching on it and just came across a bunch of guys bickering about it lol. I wanna try it some day....

the octane rating is higher with e85 but the BTU output is less so basically your getting a higher octane fuel that takes more quantity to get the same amount of "output". cheaper for the consumer at the pump but you have to stop there more often. Its a trade off. For big HP cars its worth it no question.

I run a hughes converter, nothing fancy. I'm surprised this converter is working this good for me. I bought it locally for 300$ used it is a 4k stall. I'll pm you the specs on it if you like. My Glide is from Hughes also and is a stock case, billet input/output shafts and a 8/8 clutch. Again nothing to fancy.
I do have the trannybrake and have tried it at the track a time or two but my DR's and my suspension are not tuned for it yet. I plan to use it every pass once i get some more track time. I went a 1.46 60' off the footbrake. Yes I have to push the button to go in reverse. 3.27 gear.

Dude do you remeber me, I have the Blue 95 Chris Eades. I had a S-trim then a T-trim.
We use to talk quite abit on here back like 5-6 years ago haha.

-Eades

yeah i remember you chris. I believe I started talking to you when you were stationed in Korea and you are/were air force correct? And Oson sounds familiar.

I wonder why my tranny makes noise and yours doesn't. I asked about it on hardcore50 and they said it was normal.

Well it isn't terriable in town and idleing. So far the best tune for my car seems to be about 12% more at idle, 20% part throttle, and 40% more WOT. It also was a little different in how it handled the car getting warmer compared to gas. I have a gas tune and an E85 tune so if i can't find E85 i just switch over. I think it runs much better on the E85 though. But i really only notice the fuel level when i play around with it.. lol
