Twin Turbo Mustang?

hey everyone....i am hoping my car will sell this weekend so i can finally buy a stang!!! anyways..my question was about twin turbo mustangs. i have found a few companies who sell the kits and iw as curious if any of you are running twin turbos and what you think about it? i think it would be sweet to do that but i guess it is a little spendy at 5500 dollars for the stage 3 kit from vecco. but 900 horsepower would be nice as advertised by them. any help or input would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks a lot :flag:

well man twin turbo does sound nice on a mustang but it is going to cost more then just the kit, because you are going to need suspension, a trans to handle that much power, a good 5.0 mustang that was a factory 5.0 not a ex 4 cyl car so with that being said you are looking at almost 10,000 to 15,000 to do a twin turbo mustang right
i am thinking of doing a twin turbo mustang after i get my na mustang done and running high 10s and low 11s i am going ot do a twin turbo just for the fun of it

mustangerfast88, I really dont think that it will run near that much. I have a set of T3's that I took off of a New yorker that I have been planning on using and even with a rebuild, fabbing, twisting, bending, cramming, and stuffing I have come to an estimate of around 2,000 at the most.

Like legendary said, go to turbomustangs.com and you will find a lot of really good info there.
I've been to the Vecco site and I think that they are really expensive, I asked for a price on just there headers and they said right at 1,600. There is no way in hell I would pay that for a set of headers. Anyway Have fun.

to me it dont said like he wants to do a junkyard setup he wants something relible and that is dyno and race provine and as 10,000-15,000 being alittle high well lets break that down

car true 5.0 lets say 5000
twin turbo kit 5500
transmission to hold the power tremec tko 2500 that with everythign to put it in the car
suspension drag setup this is springs struts subframe connectors roll cage 8 point 2000 with everything put in the car
baer brakes to stop the thing 2000

well right there is just 17000 bucks so 10,00-15000 being alittle high i dont think so

turbo

Damn guys.. this guy is just asking if its a good idea.. dont piss on his parade for wanting to do a twin turbo kit the right way..

I say if you wanna twin turbo a 5.0.. more power to ya..its gonna cost some money, but when its done, and the first time you mash the loud pedal all the way to the floor and burn through the tires on the way to triple digit speeds, that grin on your face will be a 100k dollar grin...do it, and do it up BIG!

thanks for all the great input guys!!! i appreciate it! once i do get my mustang it probably wont end up i getting the twin turbo kit upgrade for a while....but hey i can dream and enjoy it for it now!!! i think it would be an awesome upgrade! i know it would be expensive and all that but hopefully worth it. but if you got any other input lets hear it!!! any input is welcome! thanks a lot!

Keep in mind that alot of turbo kit manufacturers have kits claiming to be capable of 600hp or more. While this is likely true, you wont be able to get that much with a production block. Just fair warning that if you want more than ~500rwhp, you'll need an aftermarket block. On the flip side, I'm sure you wouldnt be disappointed with even 400rwhp.

It would be really cool to find a used Incon kit. I always liked those because they have iron manifolds that tuck the turbos under each cylinder bank.

stock t5 running high 10s low 11s what are you smoking man if yuo are staying manual you need a tremec 3550 or a tko
if u know how to drive a 5 speed and not WOT everywhere u go then a t5 can handle it. i mean it wont last for years and years but ill say long enough for a poor guy to save oney for a new tranny(no sayin he poor) but it will handle if if u know what ur doing. some people on here have t5's thats hold 500rwhp

You can TT or single turbo an ALL STOCK 5.0 and make 400+ RWHP without issue.

MM&FF did it to a '90s Fox body (issue within the last year, using the Hellion Power Systems kit), completely stock, nothing ever opened up on it. They only ran into a problem when they turned the wastegate to allow full boost and quick blew the head gaskets.

So, cost of the car in decent running order (a good tune up would be smart) + single turbo kit ($5000 or less depending on which you go - HP Performance (http://turbochargedpower.com/) or Hellion Power Systems (http://hellionpowersystems.com/)

OR

Cost of car + about $3000-4000 to do a custom JY DIY single or twin turbo setup with the required fuel system upgrades...basically, check out the companies I listed, see what is included as supporting items (injectors, fuel pump, calibrated MAF, etc) and you will need those items to go along with the hot/cold piping and the turbos.

Good luck!

I wanted to turbo, but the kits were a bit beyond my budget. Supercharging this week, then building the rear and tranny, stroking with the s/c, then turboing...assuming money keeps flowing in :D

It's been said before, but go to turbomustangs.com. You will learn alot and then can make your own decision. I built a twin kit using GN turbos. My aod is now on borrowed time. I do plan to upgrade anyway, when it dies I will have an excuse. I did all my own fabrication and saved a ton of money. Pop my hood during a car show and I will answer questions for a half an hour. Not something you see everyday, thats why I did it, well maybe the horsepower had something to do with it also. If you plan on adding horsepower you are going to have to do upgrades elsewhere anyway. Don't let that stop you from trying something different.

Way back in the late 90s MM&FF did a twin turbo on a 86 coupe (Junkyard turbo.) They used Turbos from a Super coupe. If they spin they are fine....(so im told) Took the headers and swapped sides (facing forward). Fabbed up the mounts to the headers and piping...Also used an intercooler from a Peterbuilt semi truck and cut down to fit...Was a stock motor with 289 heads,e cam,and stock intake.. The car ran 10s and cost less than $1000. Now, this used some ingenuity and took some ability, but can be done.

You've found one... It's been a hell of a kit (large intercooler, super-fast spooling turbos, all the pipes needed). I'm selling mine complete except for injectors, and now I'm going with a custom setup for a dart block 331. If interested contact me via pm or instant message me on AOL instant messenger.

Those of you saying it would 15,000 are out of your mind. You don't need super brakes to slow it down. At the track, I ran 122 at 10 psi in a car weighing 3400lbs with me driving on the stock shortblock (stock cam, too). That's enough speed to get into the 10s if the car is setup right. If you got a new kit, you could bolt it on for around 5k. If you buy a used... well, I'm looking for around 3k for mine.

I happen to have baer brakes on my car, but that's only because I was set up for and raced road courses. It depends on how long the coast-down lane is after you run through the traps, but with my baer's, I can stop my car so fast, that I can catch the first turn off...which is fun because the other car that just lost comes blasting passed me on the brakes trying to make the 2nd turn-off. But if you go all the way to the end of the coasting lane, you could practically engine brake before you need to turn off. This is at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA.

The only other parts you'll need, as with any car making that kind of power, is a tranny (TKO or 3550 will be fine) and a clutch (a King Cobra worked for me for a while, and now I'm running a Spec stg 3. You might be able to make it a few miles on the stock T5, but the clutch certainly won't hold at all, and the tranny is not likely to live long. I snapped mine powershifting with about 130 rwhp less than my turbo car made. The stock rear will be fine. Stock suspension works fine, too. I'm not running a cage, either.

Man, this thread got brought back from two years ago. I also sold my '89 GT one year ago next month. I was all into an Incon because they're 50 state.

Anyway, Its really, really, REALLY tempting, but my liquid assets were recently exchanged for a little .60/.63 T3 turbo with an '84 SVO attached. Guy couldnt get the manifold bolts off, so he gave me the car with the turbo.

Not really, :D, but I am out of cash right now.
