I'd say turbo for reliability, and blower for fun..The blower will begin making boost a lot lower in the rpm band, but the turbo will make more power up high..

Did you just use the words "turbo" and "reliable" in the same sentence?

You are going to need AT LEAST TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS to do twin turbo properly.

You will need at least five thousand to do s/c properly.

A centri s/c will be much more reliable, easier to tune and keep tuned, and much less mechanically complex than TT.

But none of it probably matters as this is probably just another high schooler's pipe dream thread

While you are right, I am about to graduate from highschool...I'm also about to come into the possesion of an 02 GT, and plan on doing a major modification right off the bat.

That is very unwise. Give yourself time to get to know the car, develop your plans for the car, and to get the car in top running condition FIRST.

You do realize how much $$$ BIG horsepower will cost? Plan on spending over $20-30K if you want to do it right.

well obviously he knows about the price of superchargers if he named the kenne bell 2.6L or the twin turbo setup question in the thread....I dont see why ppl make a big deal about price, most kids in my area get 40k-80k cars for graduating HS and their parents give them credit cards to do whatever they want to it ??

I think you answered your own question, kids who are given money do not see a "big deal". Men like myself who work for what they have and who have homes and families do see a big deal. If you ever want to be a man, you might want to start looking at the big picture too. The big picture is that there is more to life than having a fast car, much more.

Says the guy with 0hp/0lb/ft!!!

When you said earlier that you can expect 20-30k into a car with these mod's I got to thinking... I paid 14,800 for my car and with another 30K into it I would have a $45K car that could run with the big boys!!! Not bad.

Agreed. At your age you probably dont have very much driving experience, let alone experience driving a rwd car with 400+ hp. Also i really dont think you really need the kb 2.6 if your main concern is street driving. You can make plenty of power with the 2.1L kit. I recommend that you get to know the car and do plenty of RESEARCH before you do anything major to it. If you are interested in KB look at their website as it has very comprehensive articles all about their products and is very informative.

i kinda have a problem when people keep saying you will get more power with the turbo then with the kb or vortech bah bah bah

is all about where, when and how you want your power

i mean true with a turbo you will get more power say at the same boost lvl every thing else being even but a 750hp kb and a 750 hp turbo car are both very fast cars even if the kb is making 750hp at say 20psi and the turbo at say 15psi

just looking at the numbers a 750hp kb will be faster or even to a 750hp turbo car even if the turbo car is sized for very little lag with the vortech/procharge car coming in 3rd

Either setup will require (not recommended but required) a forged bottom end. Can I ask why the dive into the deep end...what's your goal here? Any reason you are passing on a single turbo or the smaller 2.1 KB?

Thats what I was going to say. The 2.1 would be better for your application unless you are rebuilding the engine for the 2.6.... and you will end up rebuilding the engine with a 2.6

i got a 98 z28 vert when i turned 16, it was automatic(( but it was a fast car as the first time at moroso the car clocked a 13.4@103mph with lid/exhaust only..I respected the car and didnt get out of hand, I think its gay when people say you shouldnt have a fast car at a young age, it all depends on the person driving the car because even a 1971 civic will get you to 100mph...and at 18yrs there is only 3-4 things important to life...girls,cars,clothes, and having money to buy alcohol to get the girls drunk

If the turbo car is auto with a 2 step and trans break....it will beat teh KB car. No boost drop/lag and more torque than the KB. Turbo auto cars are NO joke.
Now if they are both manuals, then I can see the KB car winning.

A 750HP centri car will be left behind...granted these all would be VERY VERY close races, but in theory, based on power delivery thats what would happen.

I'm trying to figure out where all of this bottom end torque that the KB has that a turbo doesn't. I just read a test where a Turbo whooped a Twin Screw's butt from idle to redline in HP & TQ. Turbos have evolved and have become more efficient. A Twin Screw or Centri making 500hp on 14lbs of boost can be handled by a Turbo making the same amount of power running only about 8lbs of boost. Not to say that all Turbos will beat all T/S, but pound for pound and pretty much evenly matched cars putting out the same amount of boost, the Turbo wins hands down.

I think a Turbo would make a better daily driver because the boost only comes on when you get down on it and need it. The T/S is working as soon as you turn the key and runs all the time. You can get down on a T/S a little bit and use and put about 5lbs of boost in your motor, whereas you may only see about 1lb of boost from a Turbo.

I've seen KBs on street races jump about maybe a car on a turbo, after that it was a wrap. The turbo went by the KB like it was standing still. Don't get me wrong, I love KBs, Centris, and Turbos. I personally prefer Centris, NOVI PAXTON 2000 to be exact....
It seems to me that Centris are like 3.90 gears. It's in between the T/S and Turbo like the 3.90 is in between the 3.73 and the 4.10. The 3.90 offers you the best of both worlds, gas mileage and performance.....just my .02

P.S. I think you'll be hard pressed to convince Tim Lynch to get rid of his twin hair dryers for a Twin Screw....Damn he has a sick Turbo car....

i understand that a turbo is more efficent then a blower because a blower uses hp to make hp were as a turbo does not

what i am saying is example 750hp twin screw vs 750hp turbo vs 750hp centri

we all know the boost lvls will be diffrent to make the same amount of power because of the way turbos/superchargers work

we also know that the centri supercharge will always be 3rd because max boost is not reached until close to redline

but the t/s and the turbo will be very closely matched

This thread ended up being no different than the other numerous "which blower is best" threads. I've seen turbo cars beating similarly powered blown cars and I've seen blown cars beaten similarly powered turbo cars. In the end, it's all about the overall setup.
