i was out tonight in my stang and i was enjoying the night out with the stangers. until.... i shifted hardcore into 2nd and i twisted an axle tube. to be more specific... the axle tube rotated inside the differential housing. now ive heard of this happening on high horsepower cars. basically instead of the lower control arm pushing my car forward, it pushed my axle tube back. make sense? so what i wanna know is why. my car is not making anywhere near enough power to be doing that kind of ****. heres the list...

96 4.6 5spd non pi
CAI
throttle body
plenum spacer
H pipe
magnaflow exhaust
eibach pro kit
frpp alum. driveshaft
upper and lower control arms
kyb quad shocks
superior 28 spline hardened axles
frpp 4:10 gears
and drag radials

the car hooks like hell but like i said before... i shouldnt have been able to do this without some serious power. i had the car on nitrous for a year and it never gave me any issues. im welding the next one caus this is rediculous. so whos heard of this happening? where did i go wrong here?

wew you running the radials? It probably just weakend over time, and finally snapped. just get 31 spline diff/axles, you'll be set

i would go 31 spline but the 28 will suffice for a long time. yeah i was on the DRs but holy crap. the shift felt perfect and wham! :notnice: the car was dogtracking bigtime. honestly all i need is a new housing so i can transfer my axles, carrier, and gears. it'll be nice caus the clutches in there were pretty much gone. well if i can find the parts i'll have a nice little project to do this weekend. so some fresh trac loc clutches are going to feel nice in there. plus it doesnt hurt that its getting all new seals(pinion seal was leaking) and bearings.

i found braces that take care of the problem once i get a new one. i know welding it is cheaper and i would be able to do it myself but i dont want to risk warping one and misaligning the axles.

You can still turn an axle tube with diamond plated titanium carbon fiber axles craft by Jesus.. You need to have the tubes welded to the dif housing to prevent it from moving. The tubes are only pressed in from the factory. 4 quick spot welds from an experienced welder is highly advised.

He made my axle shafts for my 95 taurus 3.8 wagon. Now I finally can hammer that 140 flywheel horsepower beast without breaking anything. You know when i take it all the way to it's 3500 rpm redline you need some serious parts to withstand that stress.
