situation - need to replace (very) old Hooker LTs (from '70s!!) on a '67 289 4bbl with OEM top-loader 4-spd, Z-bar, steering box, etc .... I'm considering two options .... the first is to go back to a more stock set-up (this is a street-only car) using HiPo manifolds but connecting up to 2.25" pipes with turbo mufflers, etc. .... what clearance issue is there with HiPo manifolds and the stock '67 Z-bar if any?? .... any other clearance issues when using HiPo exh manifolds?? .... the other option is headers .... for mitigation of clearance issues (the old Hookers were snug to the starter and steering box - usual problems), I'm looking at the new JBA Tri-Y 6651SJS .... anybody have anything to share about those LTs?? .... acknowledge up front that they're expensive and have limited application to stock trannies for 289 - which is OK for my application .... other suggestions welcomed (but there's a ton of info on headers already posted) ....

TIA and have a safe July 4th ....

Should be no clearance issues with Hi-po manifolds and the clutch linkage. This the the combo the 65-67 "K" code Stangs came with. As for the JBA's, email em and ask.

Sorry, but this info is incorrect. When running HiPo exhaust manifolds a special Z bar was used. A stock Z bar will hit the HiPo manifolds.

I don't know if the special Z bar is being repopped or not. I have heard conflicting info.

First time I've heard that. Hadn't even heard of others using them in non Hi-po cars.

thanks for the inputs .... JBA sells a different shaped z-bar for their headers and they have a set of pics showing the different styles of z-bars .... the hi-po engine one looks more like their 1650Z product ..... and that should work for the hi-po manifolds too .... and matches the input from D.Hearne .... just wanted to get as much collaborating info as possible as I only want to do this once (ha-ha) .... lots of good wisdom here ....
