Type of Nail Gun for MDF Console / Speaker box?

Looking at making a custom console for my car. Any suggestions on type of nail gun be best? Would probably use it for some other cabinet / furniture construction too...

I'm assuming a 16 gauge brad nailer for nailing the MDF together?

18gauge stapler for upholstery on it?

This is the one i have and its been great.I dont recommend it for speaker boxes.I always use screws, nails wouldnt hold together with some real dBs

Ever think about just doing it the old fashioned way, and use a hammer and some nails? I know it's not fashionable, but it sure is a lot cheaper . . . and you don't have to worry if you're using the "right nail gun" . . .

screws any day for me...they actually hold...overkill for a console, but....however I am curious about the stapler for the upholstery

just buy extra nail/staples,they dissapear once you buy it

Cheaper wont make up for the frustration of trying to nail two pieces of wood together witout a extra set of hands

Cool. That's one of the ones I was looking at.

Would it be any good for MDF? say 1/2" thick (console)?

Have you thought about using plywood for the console. It would be much more durable and less prone to splitting. That comes from my own observations when I built my speaker box out of MDF and the console out of plywood.

I think 1/2" is too thick and gonna be sorta heavy.

I havent had MDF split on me before?

If your cuts are straight and the pieces fit properly, all the screws/nails do is hold it together while the glue is drying. Glue holds the box together.

Thanks for the input. Looking at some lighter materials. Maybe MDF for the support pieces and thin plywood for the sides.
