ugh pilot bearing

all i want is my new clutch put in and this pilot bearing is holdin me back. ive tried everything it just wont budge. ive tried the grease trick. i tried sticking a carriage bolt in there and yankin it out. i chiseled everything out except for the csing and now im sawin through it to get it out. this is insane! has anybody had this much trouble? is there any other way to get it out instead of a saw and chisel?

Be REAL careful with chisel!

Have you used a slide hammer yet? That's how I generally do 'em.

Gonna replace mine when I do my clutch once the cam swap is done....so this is good info. Any particular brands to look for or stay away from when getting pilot bearings? Also, Grady what attachments did you use for the slide hammer...I'm gonna rent one from auto zone so if you wanna go and take a look at their website and lemme know... That would be nice.

Mine was a pain in the rear, I ended up chiseling it out as well. I beat the living crap out of it with a mallet and chisel until it was so dismantled I could smash it into itself and yank it out with vice grips. It took a good hour, and I was very careful not to score the crank. I wish I would have known a better way at the time.

i bought a bearing puller from harbor frieght for ~10 and had it out in 3 mins

Another vote for the slide hammer and bearing tool from autozone.

I've also heard that using soap flakes (cut off a bar of soap) jammed in the hole instead of grease works quite well too.

Advance auto parts has a really nice puller that uses fingers that get under the cutout on the pilot, I used it last night after trying all the do-it-yourselfs and failing!

Had to chisel mine out once....It took 3 or 4 hours....I made sure to rent the correct tool next time. Had it out in less than 5 min.

my dads the man he got it out. he kept drillin holes in the casing then chiselin it out and he also put some really good silicone on my oil pan just for reassurance. thank god for the old man lol nows the process of putting it all back together. the hardest parts over lol i hope
