Uh oh... That didn't sound good...

I was going WOT in 2nd gear earlier, and as I was approaching redline, I heard a kind of snap or knock sound. After I parked the car, I could hear a sound as if liquid was dripping onto a hot surface, like a "tssss" sound. The car sat for an hour or so before I drove it home. Everything ran fine. Temps were cool, no weird noises, and it ran fine. I even took it close to redline again to see. Anyways, what was this noise? Was it pinging? I had about 1/8th of a tank of gas left, BTW. Like I said, since the noise, I haven't noticed any effects.

Check it out:

On the top left corner of that picture, you can see a little black unit (not sure what it is), but it had condensation on the outside and I think it might have been dripping onto the exhaust, causing the "tssss" noise I was talking about. Anyways, that's where the sound was coming from.

Thanks for any help, guys. I'm pretty worried right now, but not as much as before since the car seemed to drive perfectly fine.

not sure about the noise u heard, maybe u just hit something u didnt see? the thing in the top left is the a/c accumulator and its normal for it to have condensation and drip onto the exhaust causing the noise u were hearing when u shut it off. u probably only noticed it b/c u were freaked out that u had messed something up. if its still running good i wouldnt worry about it.

Yeah, my car sizzles like bacon in the pan pretty much every time I get out after having the A/C on at night. Freaks my g/f out, she thinks it's about to explode. I tell her what it is, but she doesn't believe me :( . Women...

Yeah so that's probably not related to the noise you heard. Weird that you just noticed it now, though I never heard it from mine until i got exhaust (or maybe it was when I got my headers...).

I'm not helping though. Good luck, hope it's alright :nice:

Here is a guess - given you were getting the hissing sound when the condensation from the AC dripped onto your manifold it is safe to say you were running the AC when you were WOT in second gear. The thump(?) you heard may have been the AC clutch engaging - perhaps it would louder than normal since you were running the engine really hard at the time - just a guess, hope it helps.
