Well me and my dad have been searching for a car to auto cross and drag race here and there. We didn’t want to beat on our Cobras so the search continued. We ended up with this. A 1991 Mustang GT Hatch. 5.0 car with the AOD. Super honest car that was just neglected. All original body panels. Has some rust on the hatch lip and inside the door. Other then that, just faded paint. Mods include Ford Shorty headers, off-road H pipe, flow masters, aluminum driveshaft, energy suspension engine/trans mounts. We have a few things to address right away to be race ready. Rear end rebuild and diff bushings namely. Follow along as we build this up. Drove her all the way from West Palm up to Oviedo, three hour drive and took it like a champ, that’s why we love the 5.0s

Would you mind posting the VIN, or just the last part? I have a 91 GT just like yours, but with a T5. I wonder if they were made in the same batch.

Good job Essn95 we need some new builds to keep us going with all our 5.0s. A little goes a long way in the progress of a good car.

Gave her the first oil change before I start driving it too much. Noticed it had quite a beefy front sway bar while under there. The car is absolutely minty underneath. Not a hint of rust on the undercarriage. Has been a florida car all it’s life, starting in Jacksonville. I went digging in the hatch and found basically all the pieces it was missing. Door panel, air vents, visors, dome light, radio, wipers, shift handle etc. I still need to find a better dash pad as this one has a burn in it. The door panels will need to be re dyed as well. It’s crazy how just putting some of the missing pieces makes the car feel more complete. Some pics for progress.

Sounds like a sister to mine. I found a date stamp on my radiator support showing 10/24, also in 1990. My VIN is 1FACP42E0MF124660, Just a little later than yours. Funny how the check digit comes out to be the same. Mine is 9624 units later than yours. Probably not in the same paint batch.

You'd think if it was left out in the sun here a couple days you could scrape it off with a putty knife

Picked up an original mechanical fan, shroud, and coolant reservoir tank. She has been parked on the front driveway under a cover for just under a week and I noticed the past two days it started leaking a fair amount of trans fluid onto the freshly pressure-washed driveway, nice. I will have to get it on the lift this weekend but my guess would be trans pan gasket, easy fix. Got waitlisted for the April 14th autocross event so at least I don't have to rush to get her ready.

Installed poly sway bar bushing as the originals were literally disintegrating. Car responds much better to steering input now and feels more stable.
