Hopefully i'll get a better response here...
I want to paint the underneath of my stang, because in select places im starting to get surface rust... i really would like to prevent that... But im not sure what to use. I planned on using por-15 but at 30 bux a quart... That idea went pretty fast. Anybody have any experience with some good rust inhibiting paint, that doesn't cost very much? Thanx Mike

Are you going for a factory concours look or do you just want it not to rust? Surface preparation is crucial in determining durability of any coating. Be sure to strip/sandblast/beadblast the surface regardless of what product you use. Follow this with a thick coat of self-etching sealer/primer, and a thick coat of paint, you should be good to go.

Would under-coating work? 3M Underseal #08883

24oz aerosol can for about $6. Nice stuff, used it before.

A little Por-15 goes a long way. I'm glad I went with it when I reconditioned my under carriage. I did the whole car for less than $100. Worth every penny.

The cheapest thing you could do would be to spray with some Rustoleum. I'd recommend Eastwoods stuff; can't remember the name right off hand but just brush any loose rust off and your ready to apply. A pint will be plenty and you can use a brush.

I have used "Rust Destroyer" with good results. It's available at Home Depot - about $10 a quart. It's a thick self-etching primer. For more info - www.rust007.com

66Blake96....POR15'ed everything for under 100?? or POR15'ed the rusty spots on whole car for under 100?... I'm planning on doing whole car and it's looking to be around 300$ not including etching and cleaning supplies, what's your secret?

and to anyone that might know... what's the difference between "Rust Destroyer" and POR-15.... they seem to be really really similar. is POR15 so $$$$ b/c it's the brand name or is there actually something special going on there?
