underdrive pulleys with subs?

anyone have a stereo (amps and subs) with underdrive pulleys? I was wondering if it would take away too much juice from the alternator.

I have udp's and also a stereo, I run a 10" soundstream 500 watt with a small soundstream amp bridged down to one ohm... I have yet to have a problem pumping the stereo with the a/c going at a light. I can't speak for everyone though.

Running a 1k watt AMP I have had no issues with Steeda UDPs even at night with the lights on, in the winter with the heat on (or summer with the AC on) all at the same time, bass maxed.

No issues, period.

And yes gains WERE noted, not SotP gains, but I could drive up certain hills with less effort.

if it's an automatic, i wouldn't recommend it. when i had the FRPP pulleys on my GT, you could see the headlights dim when the car idled.

if you do have a problem with it taking too much power (dimming lights) you can always go and buy a capacitor

I have 2 amps, a capacitor and a subwoofer. I'm afraid of trying underdrive pullies.

I want to upgrade my car into being supercharged one day so I'll keep my same pulley.

I'm running a 1000watt 4 channel amp with another 400watt 2 channel and 2 12'in subs and i have udp's with a capacitor and i have no problem at all. No dimming at night or anything.

What's your continuous power level though on your 1000 watt amplifier?

My 800W mono-amp states "800" as max power, but only runs at 360 of continuous power at 2 ohms.

Amp manufacturers get tricky there advertising a high peak output that hardly anyone can run since the continuous power is usually most always lower than the advertised peak power.

You can either get a better alternator, OR you can get your underdrives and just keep the stock pully on the alternaror and run the other 2 and shouldnt have any problems with the lights dimming.. If its an auto i wouldnt bother... Just my .02

Underdrive pullies are not only a waste of money they can cause severe engine damage if not installed properly.

Not worth it IMHO.

$200 for ~4-5hp. awesome

saleen and steeda use them b/c they're an easy "mod" to bolt on to a car to sell for a high cost at a dealership. if you tell some guy, "oh this GT mustang has a body kit, racing suspension and underdrive pulleys, stainless steel exhaust and a special saleen 'power tune,'" its easier to get them to pay $50K for a N/A GT.

As for the crap in the thread about "just install them but do not install one on the alt"...

The crank pulley when changed underspins ALL. The alt pulley in the UPD set is actually smaller than stock and brings the alt spin back within factory tolerences.

So that was bad advice.

On the steeda set the alt pulley is larger than stock.
