Underhood Cleaning

Hey guys. This may be a silly question. I recently purchased my 08 Mustang over the winter, Im finally gunna have some free time over the weekend to really detail her. And was wondering if there are certain cleaners, i should and shouldn't use to clean up the engine and engine bay. Any recommended polishes or degreasers? Sorry if this question is really retarded

I think as long as most of your electrical is covered or wrapped you can use any degreaser you want for the engine. I prefer purple power myself. For the painted portion of the bay just use whatever soap you use on the outside paint. Can't go wrong there if it's safe on the outside, I'm sure it will ok in the bay.

with a brand new car i really wouldn't degrease the engine, i maintain mine with a quick detailer, microfiber cloth, and then any kind of metal i have i polish, but thats it.

Cool thanks for the responses. Im def gunna have to degrease some areas even tho its still a fairly new engine. Its my DD and ive put a decent amount of miles on it since i bought her. Theres plenty of nice greasy areas under there. And again thanks.

yeah i really like purple power. use that on the easy spots, and detailer spray on the more sensitive areas

A citrus-based cleaner is less likely to stain any aluminum. Warm the engine but not so hot you can't lay your hand on it. Then use the spray and agitate with a brush if needed, and rinse. Don't allow the cleaner to dry on the engine.
Plastic baggies and twist ties can be used to cover most electrical components; they don't have to be waterproof but you don't want to spray water on them without protection.
After it's clean, use a good protectant on the plastic and rubber.
