Hello, all:
I know this has probably been covered before. My underhood light on the 86GT, built Dec 1985, seems to be an older version Ford used. Maybe mercury switch. It needs cleaned and perhaps tested but the last time I did that I barely could get electricity to flow. Does anyone have a part number for these and what years they were used? And if anyone has one for sale, well that would be great. But I would like to get it working again. Thanks much.

The single wire one was used up until 1988, although looks a little different. The 89+ version is a 2 wire unit.

The switch grounds to the hood, and the single wire has 12v. It’s a mercury switch so when the tint is correct, the light goes on.

Ensure you have 12v+ on the wire (constant) and the base is grounded nicely to the hood with a tight fitting screw.

They only sell the 89+ version. I beleive it’s because that design does not use mercury.

The old pre-89 Mercury style version is not available other than used.

Just a footnote: You can get mercury switches off of Amazon if you determine it's necessary.

Hello all:
I haven't found a part number yet. The first photo is what I have but in rougher condition. I thought it was maybe used for another car line or something. I've never seen one listed for sale nor have I found a used one. I seriously doubt mine is repairable but I will try again when my work schedule permits. Been very busy lately. The ground on the hood is good but the socket is rough and if it had mercury in it at one time, maybe it dried up or leaked, not sure. Plus the wire broke near the fusible link but I can fix that. I probably could put a newer light on but its not origianl and I'm picky, but will keep at it. Thanks everyone.
