Could be. I would just make sure that the interior doesn't smell of mildew, and maybe check the wiring under the dash or something to make sure it isn't rusted. If it is, that will certainly indicate that the car was a "flood victim."
Perhaps this vehicle in question has been exposed to road salts or such causing this premature rust.
Wow, I guess I lucked out then, as my 2010 exhibits noe of the things you've listed other than the non-treated metal parts/rust. Of course, that has been present on the S197 cars since they were introduced. My 2005 GT had it, my 2007 GT500 had it, and my 2010 has it.Guys, the rust is only one of the many issues we are finding on our 2010 GT500s. Mine is one of the better ones and here is my list so far:
1. major paint flaw on right front fender and is also documented on many more cars.
2. the new hood does not align properly, poorly designed, also documented on many cars.
3. My air vents are mis matched. minor problem
4. My rear bumpers do not fit on the left side they protrude 1/16 to 1/8 inch while the right side are flush.
5. The car is a total rust bucket underneath and mine is one of the better ones.
6. Many of the cars are having a shift problem from 1st to 2nd gear at high rpms.
These are the problems that are numerous and documented on a lot of cars. There are other individual cars with unsewn seats where the stuffing is coming out, bad damage in shipment and so on.
Excuse me for being upset about the rust but so far the 2010 is a bit of a disappointent to many of us. I love the way the car drives and handles but the quality is no where near what it should be for a $50,000 car.

I don't blame you for being upset, and I think you have every right to be, but honestly, go visit any Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc. garage and you'll probably leave with all kinds of stories, scaring you away from any of those brands for life if you ever had any intention of owning one of them. It happens with the "big guns," too. It's a simple case of, "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself."
Keep in mind that the people building these cars aren't going to be the ones driving them. The quality of your car is not in their best interest; getting them down the assembly line in a timely manner in order to keep their job is. It's their only interest.
It's been a known fact for years that the majority of American autoworkers do not take the pride in their work that the foreign autoworkers do. I don't believe for a second that foreign cars (or their parts) are better than those of domestic cars, but I do believe that their assembly process and quality control is.

My wifes cousin worked at Toyota Tundras Engine plant......make a short story short, Hammers on sensors so they would fit !!! Paid him 11 dollars an hour and he said it was the worst job he ever had. No one cared.....just build the damn engines...... He said he would recommend no one to buy a Tundra.

There is no sort of guarantee that this new Shelby is a collector car. I could say the same thing about my 1994 B4C Camaro. Since 1991 there have been less than 4000 B4C models built. For 1994, there were 668. Technically, I could say that mine is 1 of 668 and it should be worth a gazillion dollars, but it's not. It's just a conversation I enjoy having, and just telling people, "Hey, I have a rare car and it's 1 of 668 made."
The 2003 and 2004 Cobras have a better chance of becoming collectible than the new Shelby cars IMO. They're the ones that "wow" people. Not only did they not weigh 4000 lbs, but they had strong blocks that were stock with 390 hp and could easily be upped to over 500 with little to no effort, plus they had the IRS setup out back. The 2003-2004 Cobra is the best performing Mustang there ever was; period. It doesn't matter that the new Shelby is faster in a straight line.
The new Shelby cars are very nice, and I like them, but as far as recent Mustangs go, besides my "2010 wet dream," the sun rises and sets with the 2003-2004 Cobras for me.
Anyway, before I get too far off the beaten path, go to a dealership and make sure you have a video camera, because I want to see their reactions when you go to them complaining about a few brackets with surface rust on them. I'm sure it will make for good comedy. They're going to laugh at you, pat you on the head, and say, "Okay, you can go now. Come back when you really do have a problem."

I think this guys full of s**t I have not heard any of the things he listed. I frequent tons of GT500 boards and i have not seen one post about these common "documented" problems.
Interesting thread. I see both sides of this issue. Honestly, I don't understand why some of you members have to pick on him. We all judge by our own standards. Sooo, with that being said, I hope he has gotten it fixed.
Did he ever say he was from up north? I'm a ford tech as well and you can always tell who's from up north just by looking under the vehicle.
