My brother in law is an executive on the quality control side at the Tundra plant here in SA.

Sensors don't get hammered into place...or perhaps I should say that things done that way aren't condoned. If your American worker (at the Japanese plant) used a hammer, he did it of his own accord and that wasn't the prescribed way to do it. That's just American ingenuity crossing over into the Japanese plant. Let's hope it doesn't stick, eh?

On a side note...isn't Ford's quality supposed to be above that of Toyota's nowadays?

FWIW...this apparently isn't a structural integrity problem, or a problem that's going to cause your axle to fail. Its just a little ugly. Grab a couple bucks in rust converter and paint, take a few hours to coat the car and you won't have to worry about it again.

Somebody sounds like they have a case of sour grapes. It's common fact that the Japanese and Europeans take higher pride in their work than Americans do when it comes to jobs like manufacturing.

Don't like it, maybe you should take your ass overseas and witness it for yourself. Nobody ever said that they're perfect overseas when it comes to manufacturing, but they are certainly better than what they are here.

Since you're disputing it, why is it that the foreign manufacturers have higher reliability ratings than the domestic ones?

Ooo ooo, let me guess. Does it have anything with them actually caring about the quality of the work they do, and taking pride in their work? Rather than asking for a smoke break every 15 minutes to go out back and get stoned then come back in and use a hammer to make things fit?

Why, YES, Fast05, that COULD be it! When's the last time somebody found an empty Budweiser can stuck between the interior panels of their Honda Accord or Toyota Camry?

The GM Fanboyism gets old after a while, don'tcha think? The next thing I know, I'll be accused of being a "GM hater." I'll just nip that in the butt before it happens. I own a Camaro, therefore it is impossible for me to be a "GM hater." Ask me which I'd rather have, a 1971 Chevelle SS or a Boss Mustang. I'll bet I tell you, "The 1971 Chevelle SS" without thinking twice about it. I like what I like, and I make no apologies. I'm not a "brand whore" when it comes to Muscle Cars.

I'm not a GM hater, and I'm not a Ford kiss-ass. I'm simply a realist, and the reality is that GM sucks these days, period.

Well, one way or another, it will be fixed by the end of next week. Here's the rundown:

April 2009- Camshaft seal starts leaking, so bring it to get fixed. Mechanic fixes cam seal but causes oil pan leak instead.

June 2009- It's the end of June when I FINALLY get my car back, and the oil pan is still leaking. He tells me to give him a call so he can repair the leak he caused.

July 3, 2009- I've had the car back for 3-4 days and I start it up. It starts missing, radiator lights come on, and then it doesn't start at all. He tows it away.

September 10, 2009- There it still sits in front of the garage, having not been touched after being promised the car back for 3 weeks now. He claims it will be ready tomorrow, but when I drove by today, there sits the car in the same spot.

September 11, 2009- I finally snap, and call him, telling him to leave the keys on the seat and a tow truck will be by to pick it up and take it elsewhere.

Approximately September 15, 2009- I'm now walking funny after being shafted for $1000s of dollars, because NOTHING on that car is cheap.
