With the doughnut on, I went to get a tire repaired today. However, I was told it was way beyond repair and needed replacement. Since I needed all new tires anyway, it did not make much sense to get just one tire -- so I replaced all four. The "best performance tire in stock" ... which I bought ... were ZR-rated Dunlop Sport FM901 (in the standard 245zr17 size).

Was this or are these as good as the sales dude said???

(Note: I live in California so snow capability is N/A, and the car is only a street car).

Looks like a decent tire, but its not an ultimate gripper. Dunlop has some better offerings (SP Sport 9000), and other manufacturers do too. But its not a crap tire either, and if you didn't pay more than about $150 each after mounting and balancing I'd say you probably did OK.

I have those Dunlops. They seem pretty nice to me. Although I haven't really drove on them much considering I bought them a few weeks before I put my car away...

I've never had much luck with Dunlop's but that was several years ago. There wore way to fast on my truck as they were supposed to be a 55000 mile tire but I barely got 40K out of them. My dad had some a while back on his 89 Grand Am and they all had seal problems. Constantly had to hit the air compressor and the shop couldn't figure out why they would lose so much air so quickly.

Recently I have heard pretty good things so you are probably OK.

I have had two sets of similiar Dunlops, and thought both were ok. It looks like you purchased the higher performance set, built for dry high speed. You may experience increased tire wear vs. the stock tires and a more abrupt (read: snap) switch to oversteer due to the large, rigid tread blocks on the edge of tread. Other than that, they seem well suited for a Mustang.
