Hello everyone, I own a 2000 GT Convertible with an aftermarket alarm/remote start Viper 5701 LE installed.

My issue is that I cannot get the lights on my rear view mirror to turn off due to what I believe is a faulty door sensor. For now I've just pulled the fuse in order to maintain a charge on my battery.

That said, having a faulty door sensor makes it so that I cannot engage the remote start system, due to the fail-safe devices inherent to a (manual transmission) remote start alarm.

I am trying to find a door diagram for my convertible in order to see how to properly replace the door sensor located in the door latch. Does anyone know where I can locate this in a PDF format or similar?

I have also sprayed down the door latch with WD-40 and tested the wiring to ensure that no connections are interrupted electrically.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have pretty much narrowed down what the issue is.

Thanks in advance -

First, does the key minder stop when the door is closed? If yes, the door sensor is OK. There is only ONE door sensor. The door sensor goes to the GEM. It is the GEM that decides what to do.

Has any recent work been done under the dash? Remember that the GEM and the radio share the same ground to the left of the center console.

FWIIW, the door sensor is located INSIDE the door near the latch. Spraying WD40 will not likely have effect any effect.

And just in case of the obvious, check the dash light switch on the head light switch. If rotated fully CCW, the rear view mirrow lights will come on and stay on.

The key minder does not register when the driver door is open or closed at all, No work under the dash has been done, I've checked all simple solutions as well for weeks now

Something doesn't quite make sense. The door switch is a single simple ON/OFF circuit. The fact that the key minder doesn't work would seam to indicate that the GEM thinks the door is always CLOSED.

However, the courtesy lights are acting like the door is OPEN. Of course, the courtesy lights are on a timer and the GEM does turn them on whenever the doors are unlocked remotely. Perhaps that is why they are on.

What does the door ajar warning light on the dash say? Does it work at all?

If this were my car, I would be focusing on how the Viper alarm was integrated into the GEM.

The Ford factory service manual does not have a procedure to replace the door sensor. I suggest that you remove the door panels and see what you can see.

Attached the wiring diagrams so that you can see how the GEM is the key to understanding this problem. This diagram will also give the GEM terminal numbers that could allow a direct functional test of the door switch.
