Unsure about how I feel about tonight...

I didnt expect much from the moment I posted this thread, now I am really glad that I did. I am still behaving and its going to be nice to have an extra $50-100 a week. The Stang is going to get some more presents thats for sure. I plan on starting two savings accounts with the extra money; one for my car, one for my future. Now I just have to decide what to buy. Until I get a girlfriend I will save up, stock up on parts then do the modifications myself. I need something to do with my time and my car seems like a good place to start.
Thanks again guys for your support, it means a lot to me.

A ton of my really close freinds are stoners and it got a little tiring hanging out with them considering i dont smoke. They are still my bros but it got old for me.

My girlfreind has really taken a lot of my time recently and i dont find that to be a bad thing.

Could anyone give me some suggestions as to where or how I can make some new friends? I am in a tough situation, I went to boarding school pretty far away for highschool and I went to college in Pa. I dont know anyone my age in my area because I have been away for what seems like 8 years. Oh and I also went to a private school from grades 5-8. All of my friends live like 75-450 miles away. I feel like a huge loser asking this kind of a question but if I take the bar scene out, I really dont know where I can meet a new crowd to hang out with. Besides, if I tried to make friends at a bar it would be kind of gay (haha, what am I going to do ask some guy for his number?). I am going to look into some car clubs but I feel like most of the members will be much older than me (23).

I think I am just going to try to concentrate on finding a girlfriend first. Maybe she could have a respectable group of friends who I could hang out with? All my current friends are druggies and I need a new crowd.
I guess putting all of my spare time into my car also seems like a good idea but I want some sort of social interaction.

Car club is a good idea, a GREAT place to make friends (besides school) is work, i've made a ton of friends through my current and last job. In fact, i hung out with some kids last night that i worked w/ 8 months ago.
A girlfriend is the best idea in my honest opinion.

dam, u have cars lined up in your driveway! lol. seriously, theres nothing wrong with just kicking back and just take time for yourself. find a nice girl, dont be in such a rush to make new "friends", and dammit work on your car. nothing gives me more joy than working on my car and i'm sure many here can attest 2 that, its probably the best therapy u could find, even though when modding a mustang things sometimes just dont go your way.

fawcett, where is hingham? Me and my buddies are out cruising around, and hitting the track often when spring comes around, your more than welcome to meet up. Im 22 BTW. Oh and Im about 15 mins north of boston.

For the winter i dont do much, snowboard, goto clubs in boston with the gf, work on the car some, and play alot of vid games. Winters really suck, i cant wait for spring time.

Do what I do. Mod the stang and work your ass off at school and work to pay for it, while also putting money away every now and then in a savings account for a down payment on a house. You'll be so busy doing this that there will be no time to do drugs or hang out with your friends that will be doing drugs. Finding a girlfriend that is against drugs would do it though!

my anti drug

haha, sorry, that commercial thing seemed fitting since you seem pretty sincere about trying to get your life in order. I think these guys pretty much covered it though, with places to meet some people. Lay low for a bit, get some cash saved up, hit the track with your freshly modded 'Stang, and chill with the car guys. I used to go to this place called Blue Top by my old house when I first got my '95. It was a drive-in restaurant where people took their cars (mostly older guys with classic cars), but a lot of younger people would go there, too. Met a bunch of cool guys up there. Actually started hanging out with my current best friend through people I met hanging out there when I was 19, and we were all sitting around in a parking lot. Some hot girls went by honking and waving, and he wanted to go catch up with them, so I hopped in his car when he said let's go find them. Screwed up, but we've been friends ever since. To complete that story, yes we did catch up to the chicks, and stayed friends with them for a bit, too, although I guess when you sleep with a girl, they want more of a commitment than just staying friends, so that kinda fell apart after a while... :(

Every time you feel like smoking put the money into a jar. At the end of the month count the money saved. You'd be surprised how much you can mod your stang in a shorter amount of time. It keeps your money tied up and out of trouble.

Or you could put it away in an account and make some interest.

Its pretty lame that you can only have fun when your high/drunk. Dont get me wrong I love drinking(New Years = :D ) but I have no problem having a great time sober. How about picking up some new hobbies/interests.

Dude I wish you didnt bail on your old car, I thought it was going to be sweet. Atleast you followed through with a sick Cobra, I am jealous.
Hingham is south of boston; close to Weymouth, Hull, Quincy, Cohasset. It takes me like 40min to go from my house to Boston, I have a few (or should I say Had a few) friends who live on Beacon Hill right above the Beacon Hill Pub.
Honestly, I have always gone to the track solo so even if I meet you up there I would have someone to shoot the s h i t with.

I am looking into projects to keep my self busy. I have been looking at welders, I want to pull my motor and clean my engine bay up by welding the holes and fiberglassing over everything. My christmas present can either be a new carpet and some other misc. parts or 50% of a Tweecer R/T. I know the Tweecer will keep me busy but too bad my car is off the road for a few more months. I still havnt decided but my moms cool so there is no real rush to start buying stuff. Also, the Tweecer is off the market for a while if you didnt know that already. I hope they come out with a hand held device so I dont have to worry about my laptop running out of batteries inbetween data logs.

The best part is that if I pull my motor I am definatly getting a whole new front suspension. I just need to save some money before these projects get underway then spend spend spend and work work work.

The cravings to get high are gone, still not smoking (anything).
Thanks again everyone for all of your support, it really means alot to me.

Update:
Last night I was hanging out with my cousins. We had a few beers and then they wanted to go get some of that white ****. I passed it up and drove home, they went to go get it. Tonight I was offered weed like 3-4 times and I passed it up everytime. Sucks but I gotta do it. I know this may seem wicked stupid to those who have never tried/encountered this stuff but normally it is around me all the time.
Just wanted you all to know Im still trying, thanks again for the support

you are doing the right thing. we're all behind you rooting for ya.

i was a music major in college the first few years. this was 1978-1980 (yeah i am old guy). i was going to be trombone player in a jazz band. anyway, i would wake up with a couple of bong hits, go to class, do a few more in the afternoon and a couple at night. i was basically high non-stop for 2 years solid. so one spring the whole campus went dry for like a month and i simply couldn't get any. after about 3 weeks of not getting high, i had an epiphany - i realized that i could think clearly and i actually noticed what was going on around me. i never got high again (ok i took a couple hits off a joint at my brother's bachelor party, but that was it).

that was when i realized i really didn't want to be a jazz trombone player and i got interested in computer programming.

then i started swimming and biking and i had no desire to smoke cigarettes either. it felt great to be able to swim a mile in under 30 minutes.

i don't swim or bike much anymore, but i play soccer and tennis and that keeps me going.

i still drink a couple of beers a week, but exercise and sports keep the desire for drugs at a minimum.
