Up to how much lift can the........

Stock gt40p springs, or stock e7 springs? I know your using the gt40p heads but whitch stock springs are you using.

Heres my thread on the subject not too long ago. I have a bcam.

"I ran GT-40P heads for a while, and I was concerned about the stock springs as well. The Ford Racing Tech Dept. told me the stock springs were only good to .450" lift. I thought I would be safe with a .447" single duration cam, but in less than a year I had all sorts of valvetrain problems related to the springs.

Pretty much stock springs and are big no no. Not only because they cant handle alot of lift but because they will also be very old and have lost pressure. No matter if your swapping rr's, new cam, or replacing heads, id wait an extra paycheck and spen the 150 bucks for a nice tfs spring kit with all the retainers and have a machine shop install them at the correct height, pressure, etc.

right on, im going to install the thumper kit after christmas on the gt40p heads then, and run stock e7's for now then, I really dont want to screw the like new explorer engine that is going in here. now I just have to find some e7 mustang heads locally, ah that will be lots of fun!!

hmmm...i was going to get the TFS kit from summit for my P heads but just had a long talk with two of the guys at the summit store. They DID NOT want me to get the trick flow kit for some reason. something about the P heads being newer heads or somethin...i dunno honestly i just took their word for it. i told them i wanted to run my stock cam for awhile and maybe later down the road swap in a bigger cam so i wanted springs that could handle lift numbers in the low .5xx area. I ended up getting the kit from crane (#CRN-44308-1 i think)

max lift they said was .550, it was $113 compared to the trick flow $133 and i dont plan on using a ginormous cam on the P heads seeing as their flow levels off around .500 lift right?

should i take em back or what?!?

does the gt40p heads use dual springs? if they dont your heads would have to get machined to except a trickflow spring kit. I have the tfs track heat upgrade kit on twisted wedge heads and they are a double spring. Inner and outer springs and a damper inside as well. Unless of course you guys might be referring to some other spring kit trickflow makes.
