Update on my '68 coupe (lots and lots of pics)

I haven't posted here in a while, but I have gotten some work done on the car. There should be a whole lot more accomplished by this point, but oh well.

Work done:

• Stripped the floor pans to check for rust
• Applied Zero-rust to floor pans
• Covered floor pans with 2 layers of SecondSkin
• Painted dash
• Installed new stereo w/ 12" sub
• Installed new carpeting
• Installed 1993 Mustang front seats (only 1 in right now)
• *Almost* finished carpeting the trunk

Here are the floor pans

Some areas were ugly, but I was able to get down to good metal...

Then I applied ZeroRust to the floors

After that, I put 2 layers of SecondSkin's deAmplifier Pro on the floors from the firewall all the way under the reat seat

Then it was time to paint the dash

The latest project that I have been working on is carpeting my trunk. I picked up some custom auto carpeting for a Mercedes for $20 and attached it to 1/8" ABS plastic sheeting cut to fit my trunk with 3 pieces. Those are installed. Now I just need to attach carpeting to the insides of the quarters and the wheelhouses.

By the way, for anyone that made it this far I have a template for my trunk carpet design if you are interested. It is accurate for my 1968 within 0.5" so it would be a good starting point if you want to try this. I'm not sure if it would carry over to other years. Very easy to carpet your trunk for only a little $. If anyone is interested I could PM it to them or post it here.

haha i did the exact process to my 66 this summer, of course it took a lot longer putting it back together than taking it apart. How long did it take you?

Btw: I put second skin down too... it really does make a difference. my ride is a lot quieter

It took way too long! Let's see....

4 weeks to gut the interior completely and strip some of the floor pans to test how solid they were. I had a lot of stuff going on and I'm sure I could have made better time here. At that point I did the Zero-Rust, which took another week because I couldn't find any time until the weekend. Then I picked up the SecondSkin and installed that as well as painted the dash and got the stereo installed within 2 weeks. 1 week to figure out how to drill the seat tracks correctly for the '93 seats and get them installed. I still can't believe how long it takes to get through one of those seat tracks with a drill... the bit made for drilling metal didn't seem to do much, is there anything out there that would take less than 30 minutes (min) per hole in the track? 2 weeks to strip then prime and paint the interior qtr panels and package tray, plus I had to prime and paint the speaker grilles in the car because they were gray and blue for some damn reason. 3 more weeks to install the carpet, dash trim, dash pad, and seats.

I don't want to bother counting that... it probably isn't accurate anyway. There has always been some small holdup over a missing part that costs me a week or 2.

looks like it is all coming together nicely. I help a budy of mine do the same work on his 1972 cuda. Looked way better when we were done. We also used spray vynal di to change his interior color from green to black. that stuff works very well. lots of thin coats to avoid runs.

I have an extra set of those same seats, and I would like to get the front and back seats covered in black leather, and put them in my 68. It would look good because the stitch pattern is very much like the 68 seats, and would look good with my fox console.
