when i purchased my car i changed the battery to an optima red top i install batteries at work all day long and the install went smooth but i found that the car had an alarm previously installed on it so after installing it the car would not start i found a small valet switch under that dash reset it and was on my way (i do not have a keyless entry remote). today i changed my oil pressure switch i disconnected my battery to do so and had the same alarm ordeal again except this time i could not get it to reset when i reconnected the battery the windows rolled up and the door chime was dinging without the key in... the car wouldnt start and i could not get the alarm to reset. when i looked under the dash for the first time i found a wiring mess i tried bypassing the valet switch and did nothing but i did find a few inline fuses in the wiring i pulled them one by one got the alarm to shut off and the car started.... i left for work and realize my windows now wont go down..i have absolutly no experiance with alarm systems and want this thing outta my car ! looking under the dash it looks as if maybe the alarm was spliced into some of the engines computer there are a few different modules under the colum, what are these modules? and can someone give me a general idea on how an alarm would be hooked up and what it needs to be hooked into cause i need to rip this alarm system out. its very scary sniping wires around and under that steering colum please help! much appreciated btw im fairly sure the car also had factory alarm the dome light turns on the exterior handle is pulled

thanks: ethan

I had a friend who had an aftermarket alarm system in her car that would malfunction and go off for no reason. I very carefully removed all wiring, the relay, siren and alarm related parts. I then patched up the original wiring where it had been spliced. You may need to do the same.

Did you find the window roll-up box yet?

If this happens in the future, I recommend calmly finding the siren and disconnecting it. Now it's quiet and you can systematically examine the wiring, rather than tearing stuff apart (I know how that goes bud).

Good luck.

Hopefully they used scotch locks for their feed lines door locks; Maybe they didn't cut any factory wiring. The starter wire will be cut, so you will have to butt connect that.

The alarm systems we install on RV's are pretty simple. If you pull the fuse, the alarm is bypassed and everything works.

They likely cut the wiring to the windows there, so if you just reconnect that wiring you should be set, unless anything else doesn't work.

Maybe This helps some.

i would make sure to can have some down time with car. you never know what mess your getting into with an unknown install.

locate the alarm brain, you may be lucky and there might be a wiring diagram on the outer case.

the ignition wire will be hooked up to a relay. the relay should have 4 wires hooked into it. one will be the ignition wire from the alarm brain, it can be + or -, another will be the opposite of the alarm ignition. the other 2 is really one wire thats been cut. that the cars ignition wire. this wire has to be connected back together with a butt connector like mentioned in another post above.
all the other connection will most likely will be tee-tapped into a wire. but you won't know untill you start following wire. ( i have my fingers crossed you're gonna need it)
if this aftermarket alarm, also use to control your windows? you MAY have even more relays for that.

just take your time and follow one wire at a time. if you have any questions feel free to ask.

there will be more wires than i mentioned above here are some off the top of my head: 12v positive, ground, two for the siren, two for the valet switch, two for the L.E.D. light, you should have one or two for the dome light. if you have any trip switch or mercury switches on your trunk or hood. there will be wires for that. wires for your door lucks. and wires for accessories like windows etc..

good luck
